Controller voltage too low to burn flash

Post by Rich Jones »

I am trying to load any MS2 Extra code and getting this error when I try to burn an MSQ file. MT says it can not connect to controller, but it shows connected before I try to burn.

Latest release (1.0.2) flashes OK, I set up an MSQ file, everything's OK, I can see sensors changing in megatune. Then when I try to burn anything from megatune I get this error and the sensors go haywire and I have to reflash MS2.
Having the same with beta versions.

It's a v2.2 board with mods for EDIS which I've been using in various stages (ms1extra, ms2) for about 3 years with no issues.
I now want to use ms2extra but every time I try I get this.
Laptop is plugged in mains, MS is on stim with variable psu set at 12v.
I can happily reflash with standard MS2 code without any issues.

any ideas?

This is an indication of serial corruption.

Have a look at the InterWriteDelay in megasquirt-ii.ini and try increasing it somewhat.

well, before I tried this I managed to get it working.
I found that I only have this problem if I make an MSQ file before I connect to MS, then open the MSQ I made. It simply won't burn.
If I connect to MS then make a new MSQ file everything's fine. Maybe its because MS populates all the necessary variables and they get saved with the file?

Anyway i have managed to drive a distance for the first time with MS2e.

Absolutely.

Creating an MSQ "from blank" is the worst thing to do and will never work.

Always start connected or by loading a default.msq.

comm errors.

Post by offtrack »

many lap tops have a very poor accuracy at MSextra buad rate of
115k . as much as 2% or higher error , this will cause framing errors and since neither the OS in windows looks at the framing error bit ,nor the MS.
then you are blind to this error, so it shows up as corrupted data.
i have special hardware and software that can see this error.

worse case is burning, but can happen at any time.

the solution is to get a good serial port with a Fast internal clock.
a fast internal clock corrects the error in old legacy lap tops.

I have a PCMCIA card that runs at 15mbs, so 115k is childs play.
others use a USB adaptor that in effect has the same design as mine.
many USB adaptors, are rated to 1mbs, and will work fine.

the lap top uses a 16550 Usart chip with a slow master clock , most are rated to run no faster than 20kbaud (19.2kb) dig deep and that IS the spec. (IBM/Microsoft legacy code)

there is a post on the forum asking for all models of USB , that work.

hope this clears up comms.

thanks, but my laptop has a serial port built in.
It's always been OK until now.
I did look into what James said above, but it seems that me building the MSQ file from blank was the issue, as its been fine since.
