Two things: it needs a 3.3V supply (and interface, I assume) and it's only rated at -5C to 45C operating temperature.

this one plugs directly into the MS serial port, and simply "works":

In house I can tune the car from inside the next room (car in the garage) with door closed in between. Outside, I haven't tested it yet.

That's very cheap! I'm using it for 2 years without any problems.
I also have a Wifi - serial adapter (Roving networks RN-134), but haven't had the chance to test it yet. Maybe the coming weekend.

You should be able to pair a std BT dongle on the other end, as long as your OS supports BT serial comms.
(In the amusement park of my mind I recall reading some setup instructions)

I bought 2 at that price, but hope to just put them on my 2 MS setups.

EDIT--- Oh well, looks like Newark never had them to begin with, must have been an error in their system.

They offered me another part# for $88 ea, I had to politely say "shove it".

Got mine. Did you power through the DB9?

Thanks

The LM058? Yes, I powered it through the DB9. I didn't yet test the wireless adapter, plan is to install it inside the case with an external antenna although this might be a problem for firmware updates as I always do those with a serial cable. Don't think 2 devices may be attached at the same time.

I've got an LM048 on the way also. Did yours arrive and did you have any luck?

Looking at both datasheets for the 048 and 058, they both look similar except for the actual size of the units. The 048 should work great in my car as i've not got much room where i've mounted the computer under the dash.

What's it got for a connector?
Same band as wifi... Should be able to scarf an old wifi antenna if it uses SMA connector.
