I loaded mon.s19 with pemicro multilink with Freescale_9S12C64_1x16x32k_64k_Linear_16k_page.12P and prog12z pemicro software
When i load it to software it said me mon.s19 range is wrong
So i used log2phy(logical to physical adress converter)d that converted mon.s19 in another phy s19 file that pemicro accepts.
After this connected to target with bdm multilink and prog12z and connection was ok
then i erased flash and programmed mon.phy.s19 file sith succes
I try to use ms2-downloader but i get Error timed out response 0xE0

how can i fix it?

I've only ever used HIWAVE and the P&E BDM to programme.

Is the monitor running? Try stopping it and single-stepping to see what's happening.

HIWAVE is a software that works with p&m?

Yes, HIWAVE works with the P&E Multilink.

Any links for flashing the serial monitor through the BDM with the P&E under Linux?

WINE has gotten pretty good over the years...

Works may be too strong a word in my experience - "cooperates when it feels like it" can be more like it.

Had to replace the chip the old fashioned way as I didn't have the right hot air rework nozzle, xacto, fine tip soldering iron, solder wick and a blob o'noclean soldering paste to keep the chip from floating away and she works.

Looks like it will NOT work under Linux as it seems to depend on something in CW, and the Linux flavor does not support S12x.
I'll have a look at the code and see if it just needs libs and can be hacked.
I've finally got round to replacing the processor and purchased a Wytek USBDM. Could someone take me through step by step how to load the mon.s19 as I'm rather out of my comfort zone. :D

Do you power the daugherboard from the MS, or will the USBDM power it? Which way round does the plug go? Etc.

The BDM cable won't power the target, it needs to be powered externally (i.e. through the ECU). There should be a small triangle on the connector denoting pin 1 -- pin 1 is also marked on the MS2 BDM header.

Do you need a walk through?

Install CW
Install the software that comes with the BDM

The software that comes wit the BDM is all you really need to use, it just relies on some of the files/libraries in CW.

I remember it was VERY easy to figure out how to use it ...and It was literally over within ~30 seconds.

I can dig it out and write a proper procedure if you need it.

Thanks guys - that's given me enough to experiment with -and not blow it up. :D One thing that did happen is Win7 decided to find its own driver for the BDM, so doesn't list it separately in Devices. I'll have a play later today and get back if I fail miserably.

Success. Without using CodeWarrior - although I had downloaded and installed it. Thanks once more for all the info on here.

I have same problem. I have replaced my processor, but I can't download ms2/extra. Serialmonitor works fine and B&G firmware works too. Extra loader downloads bootstrap fine, but then I get error (0xFF). Voltages at processor is ok and i've tested it with 3 computers, one real serial port and 2 different serial adapters. Is there any advice to what to do next?

I fried my MC9S12C64 two days ago. Probably ESD damage, but I could be wrong.
Anyway, I need to replace the uC on the MS2 daughterboard.

This is what I have understood from reading through this thread so far:

1. You need to solder in a new uC on the MS2 daughtercard:
http://no.mouser.com/Search/ProductDeta ... S12C64CFAE

2. You need a BDM unit. I bought this one on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Freescale-Debug ... 19d281f3ee
I hope it's suitable for the task.

3. You connect the BDM cable to the 2*3 pin header on the MS2 daughtercard.

4. Then you have to upload the mon.s19-file to the chip using the BDM unit already connected to the MS2.

This is where I'm a bit lost:
Is the mon.s19 what we call a serial monitor? Do we call it a bootloader? I'm confused.
Is it correct that you ONLY need the software that is intended for the BDM unit?
I downloaded the USBDM_4_10_5_Win.msi software. Is this enough to be able upload the mon.s19-file? I'm working in Win 7 64 bit.

When the mon.s19 file has been successfully uploaded to the MS2, can it then be uploaded with the MS2 extra downloader.bat like you would normally do when you upgrade to MS2 extra?

Is there anything additional that I need to know? And please correct or add info to my checklist if it's misguiding or wrong :-)

Thanks a lot for this helpful thread!

You need to install the free CodeWarrior 10(sumpthing) before the USBDM software.

You only need to USE the BDM software, but it uses CW for something, and it won't install if it's not there...

The monitor makes the serial port work etc, you load it with the bdm, then all the rest with the std msextra tools.

Unless you have hot air rework tools, carefully cut the legs off the bad chip to remove it, the cut off legs are easy to remove from the board afterwards.

A low powered inspection microscope is handy for inspection that things are clean/soldered properly.

Thank's for the head-up!
I'm experienced with SMD soldering and got the proper equipment at home ;-)

Ok, so pretty straight forward then:

Install CodeWarior 10.x
Install USBDM software
Connect MS2 with BDM cable
Upload mon.s19 with BDM through BDM software
Run MS2extra downloader.bat

Then this will be a walk in the park :-)

Any additional things I should take into account, be aware of or that is nice to know?

The USB-BDM can be horrendously unreliable.

We use the USB BDM multilink cable from P&E Micro. Also, the last we knew, you need to use CodeWarrior "Classic" for S12(X) V5.1 and not V10.x.

I use the P&E USB BDM, I was just warning that it can be terribly unreliable. Some days mine works great, other days for no explicable reason it is the most useless piece of equipment I've ever dealt with. I have updated the firmware on it recently, I'll have to see if that improves things.
