What is "time after spark"?

Post by ol boy »

What is the time after spark setting in the Ignition options tab? What's its function and how does it work?

Thanks Ryan

It's for CDI systems. Unlike an AC CDI with its one big chunk of AC power from the HV alternator windings, a DC-DC CDI charges the firing capacitor continuously unless blocked. When the CDI is triggered, an SCR dumps the firing cap through the coil. If the charging system isn't blocked, the charging current keeps the SCR conducting, and the cap never recharges. Most such CDI systems block the charging system with the trigger signal, and a briefly sustained (1-2 msec) trigger signal allows the SCR to fully switch off.
