MS2/Extra pre-3.4 alpha 3 released

Post by jsmcortina »

To announce the release of "MS2/Extra Pre 3.4 alpha 3" - this is a new stream of development codes. Most of the changes here are the same changes as in recent pre-3.3.2 codes. This alpha code includes the CAN broadcasting also.
EDIT: ETA on this 3.4.x code becoming release is 6-12 months.

Who should use this code?
Experienced users wanting to test the new features.

Who should not use this code?
New or casual users - please use the current release code instead - see the Downloads page linked above.

Main changes since pre-3.4 alpha 2
Bug fixes:
Re-arrange memory usage to (hopefully) prevent a stack overflow.
Apply same CLidle target change from MS3 to fix "stuck" problem after start.
Fix decimal places on testdwell

The memory change is the big change here. A large chunk of code from main() has been moved to a function. I have scope tested spark and injector timing. The code ought to run your engine identically to 3.3.x - if it does not, or you spot any other weirdness, please report it here immediately.

The zip can be downloaded from:
EDIT: Removed. Please await pre-3.4 alpha4.

Be sure to read the RELEASE-NOTES.txt and README.txt. Especially note that "Not Synced" has been renamed to "Not RPM synced".

The current TunerStudio (2.6.0 or later) is required.

Used the new code a few minutes ago. Tried to reproduce the stackoverflow error but haven't been able to do so.
Great job James!

I'll be playing around a bit and will keep everyone updated about this version. The stackoverflow seems resolved (at least in my case).

so far this seems working very well, no errors - super coding James!

The CAN broadcasting is just too perfect, I love it - hopefully never have to back to "serials" anymore.

If any help for anyone, attached my MSQ and the Dash2pro .CAN file (SaveAs and remove the .MSQ extension). The .CAN file contains my CAN receive parameters in Dash2pro config file format.

Thanks!

Does the DASH2Pro support loading of .DBC files ?
I have the software here to create those maps of signals and messages. I was planning on creating them for MS2 and MS3. It is my understanding that some/many aftermarket CAN packages can read those files to understand available data.

I'm guessing that you haven't read the RELEASE-NOTES.txt file. Please read it.

James, strange thing here:
loaded this new alpha, then the msq I was using before.
This "Difference Report" window appear and also if I hit "Send Current TunerStudio Settings" this window appear again and again, as if MS can't accept my RPMs values.
(this issue could be related to the latest TS beta (2.6.01) instead of MS firmware ?)
Thank you.

.dbc importing works on all Race Technology CAN adapters (Dash2Pro, DataLoggers DLx, and Video Systems...). I don't know how to write them though. What tool do you use?

PS: I am on MS3 but never mind.

Have you seen this issue with other firmware versions?
I also am seeing it with pre-3.4 alpha3 and TS 2.6.01 now that I've been testing. I have only just started investigating.

No James, never seen it before.
The latest firmware loaded was 3.3.2 beta9 some days ago to try some things on the bench. No strange things found (with the same TS beta version).
Now I'm reloading beta9 and then 3.3.2 release to see a difference behaviour with the same msq.
I let you know.

It seems firmware related to me.
Repeatable on pre-3.4 alpha 3.
Not seen on 3.3.2

Just finished.
3.3.2 beta 9 and 3.3.2 Release have worked normally, as expected.

Race Technology suggested CANoe from Vector GMBh. It is a 1gig download though...!

I found the bug. A very simple typo, but renders all existing pre-3.4 codes as junk because data is misaligned. I'll put out a new version today.

Does this mean that also the .MSQ-files, created with the previous pre-3.4 alpha 1 to 3 -versions, are junk for the new alpha 4 -version?

Just found a bug in the injector test mode stuff. When the Injector count gauge counts down to zero it loops to 16242ish and stays there. The injector stops triggering but the gauges is bouncing around. Not sure if this is present in 3.3.2 or 3.4A4...
