VCS access to extra code

Post by BLOZ UP »

Hey,

I did a search here and found that the extra code seems to be on a private VCS (CVS?). Why not make it publically readable? The reason being I'd like to take a look at some of the differences between 3.3 and my previous firmware. Specifically, a trigger bug fix in 3.3 for "trigger angles near 360" or something like that?

The source is available in the zip file for every release. Use that.

The CVS server will never be publicly available. That would lead to too many issues and does not give you anything more than what you already have access to.

Only nitpicking here, but you and the other developers would have access to all previous versions and the log comments. With enough dedication, a Joe Public user could build a subset of the revision history, but he'd be pretty special if he could guess the log comments. They are what I would most have liked to have seen when I was actively exploring the MS2/Extra code.

That said, I agree that widening availability of the CVS repository would generally add to your headaches.

Have fun,

Rob.

You'll find more information in the ChangeLog than would be in the cvs logs.

Certainly the ChangeLog is useful information, and all that an end user needs. CVS logs are a different beast, potentially explaining to a programmer what was behind a file change. OTOH, they're not much chop when they say fixed a bug or a few edits. They can also be pretty useless when there are major file reorganisations. At their best they can be really helpful. They can also be a source of entertainment when you get jim:Removed John's changes john:Undid Jim's last change and repeat. A clear sign of a harmonious and productive development team.

Have fun,

Rob.

I rarely if ever look at our commit notes. You aren't missing much there.

Ok then. Does that trigger angle fix explain why my timing jumped 20 degrees from one firmware to the next--or am I imagining things? This also happened years back with an older version--without a firmware upgrade cause.

That's not a new topic, it is a five year old topic.

There's no need to be pedantic. I can create a new thread, but I'll just copy and paste the same information. I've updated the thread.
