T1 Motorsport Air Temp Sensor 1/8 NPT?

Post by zippo »

Greetings. As you can seen in my post below I am in the process of MSing my 87 22re, with a supercharger. I have read, the IAT sensor should be after it is compressed, the only port post compressor is a 1/8 NPT (boost gauge), which I am not running. With all that said, I found this.

Is this a good option? Has anyone had sucess with these or know of a better option? Thanks Jason

It's a lot pricier than the standard GM unit but you certainly could use it.

The Saturn 1.9l engines used a 1/8"NPT CLT sensor. Closed element, of course.

That would be Standard Motor Products # TX73 or TX73T. I have easily cut the brass bulb off the tip to make it an "open type", but I'm not sure what pressure it can handle like that.

Yeah I had read and even looked up the saturn iat. That part of the manifold gets rather warm so im worried about heat soak.

I know the t1 sensor if factory in something. I also found it over

That Saturn temp sensor is also used for the trans temp, normally about 250-275F. Again, that is for the unmodified "closed" unit, but it hints that the thermistor element in there is capable of any reasonable heat-soak. They are cheap (about $10 US), so worth considering. Calibration charts from -40F to 312F are commonly available, but shouldn't be needed since it is standard GM. Pressure? Trans pressure is about 265F, so an unmodified sensor can handle that. Do some testing on one stock (closed), see if you can tell us how fast it responds to temp changes that way.
