Has Megasquirt been used to control Direct Injection

Post by dmahan »

I am working on a small prototype diesel engine (65HP) and I may want to use Megasquirt if I can also use solenoid actuated direct cylinder injection.

Has anyone heard of Megasquirt being used in a direct cylinder injection application?

What brand and type of pump/injectors were used with Megasquirt?

Thank you.

I may be wrong but I don't think it would work as you would need to control fuel timing along with amount. Some programming wizard may be able to combine the ignition and fuel aspects of MSII for your application but it is not available now.

So MS doesn't provide the ability to control injection timing AND pulse width?

Yes, the MS provides both.

Correct me if im wrong, but direct injection is just reference to the physical side of things. It still injects when needed?

MS still has only 2 injector bank outputs (has otherwise it changed?), so if the injector injects direct into the cylinder (unlike the typical injector on the manifold), then it might be a little waste of fuel/dangerous if the other injector on the bank fires on intake/exhaust.

MS will NOT work with sequential or direct injection. This requires the injection to be timed with the ignition event. How MS currently works, the injection event is not timed, so even if you could seperate the signal into on fire per cylinder, it will do you no good. No MS will not control direct injection.

Well, really, you need the router board, but, I don't know if its ready yet.

With the router board you could do it.

Check out this thread. I haven't gotten any feedback yet, but I think that Direct injection might be acheivable with minor changes and running one megasquirt per cylinder. I've been pondering buying a small diesel generator (1 or 2 cylinder)to test this idea out on.

It's probably not the answer that your looking for, but maybe it would work.
