EDIS Spark Advance Testing

Post by Asad »

Hi,

Im currently runing MS1 V2.2 with the latest MS'n'Extra code.

Its modded for EDIS and all up and running on my Zetec.

However, I am not entirely convinced the Spark is advancing.

What is the best way to test? I have tried increasing/decreasing the spark table at idle but I dont see any changes in engine speed.

Any tips?

you shold be able to easily notice it with a use of timing light at idle.

again, at idle try retarding the spark... 10-15 deg should cause noticable difference in how the engine is running. if not, retard it more. if you retarded it 30 deg and still no difference then definitely, your EIDS is running in 10 deg 'limp' mode and you have no control over timing.

Ive tried extreme settings of the advance with no change.

And I dont think there is a mark for use of a timing light.

I will have to look into measuring the output from the MS using something.

surly there is a mark somewhere at 1st cyl TDC. if it's not on crank pulley then make one. all you ned to do is to confirm that it moves backwards and forward as you advance/retard timing.

I am having the same problem, no matter what I do, timing doesnt change. The car just runs on limp mode, if anyone can help I would appreciated. I checked my wiring and my settings(MSII v3). I am out of ideas.

thanks

I managed to get mine working last week.

There were a couple of issues. Firstly the resisitor in place of D8 was the incorrect value.

Secondly the setting in the "Spark Settings" was incorrect for the trigger angle. I had to set it to "60".

I would check your settings. Read through the megamanual as the settings are documented there.

I tried changing the trigger offset to zero yesterday, still no change. I will check the rest of my setting once again and that resistor value, Thanks so much for your help and if anyone comes up with any other suggestions I will appreciated.

Trigger Angle = 0 is correct for MS1/Extra

MS2 users must consult the MS2 docs.

Even if your engine doesn't have any obvious timing marks you can make rudimentary checks - stop the engine and draw a chalk line on the crank pulley. Run the engine and use a strobe see where that line is. Adjust the timing using "Fixed Angle" on spark settings. It MUST change as you do this and you should here the engine tone alter. Otherwise you most likely have a SAW output problem.

Top three problems are:
incorrect "Spark A" setting in Megatune
incorrect inverted/non-inverted output
missed out some of board mods
wiring error

Sorry, my mistake in the post above - edited to reflect.

The incorrect setting was "60". Now it is set to "0".

I used tipex on the crank pulley to mark a reference. Once I had correct settings/mod, I was able to see it move with my timing gun.

Thanks
