GM DIS Coil on Plug...

Post by SL2t »

Going to be set up with the MS-II. I have an 05 Saturn Ion RedLine. The stock computer is NUTS and no one can do anything about it. I have used the MS before, but not for coil on plug applications. Worse comes to worse I put an MSD distributor in where the power steering pump would go (Since my car has electric steering instead.). They make an AWESOME set up. But my question is, can I just interface directly to the ignition system? I'm not 100% on how it works, but I know they don't just fire off a crank signal. I believe there is some sort of pressure sense to them or something? Anyways, fuel is not going to be an issue and neither is the e-throttle. I am just curious how I would interface with this. It's the same coil on plug set up they used in the quad fours for almost a decade. Thanks guys.

That's the SAAB ion-sense setup isn't it? I do not think that it is presently supported.

James,

I do not think it is exactly like the DI cassette used from 90-current on the 2.3L and 90-2002 on the 2.0L Saab engines. Someone posted an article on this once. I read through it and it appears to be an ion sense but with only 2 coil packs (wasted spark).

It should have a 60-2 ring on the block which could be used to drive any sort of W/S system and maybe even the existing coil packs, but without this advanced feautre of ion sesne for 'knock/preignition' sensing.

More info and pictures probebly needed. I looked at one of these at the car show, but was not able to take it apart. Is it like this:

No, it isn't like that. There are directly coil on plug. I have to pull a bolt off each coil pack before I can pull the plug and boot out. There are like 6 wires running to each coil pack too.

Anyone have any details about this type? Schematics, Description, etc would be nice.

I wonder if this other type mentioned in the article would work on your engine. The spacing should be the same and it looks like a pretty easy setup to MS.
