Toyota 20v no spark output

Post by prandkjturner »

I am setting up a toyota 20v and I am having trouble with a spark output whilst cranking. The spark output is only present consistantly if I have the spark plugs out so the engine is spinning over faster.

I have the 24 tooth wheel with two teeth removed ie 12-1 for two coil wasted spark, and I have also removed the post and magnets from the other sensors as this is not required and did not want to deal with cross talk, however the signal appears on all of the output wires. Can anyone tell me which are the correct wires? Maybe my trigger signal is weak at crank speed and with the extra speed of no compression the VR reaches a treshold?

Is there a setting in MS to output spark only once a certain speed is achieved?

Toyota 20v no spark output

I have no experience with that engine but reversed VR wires will cause
similar issues on my engine. Reducing the air gap will increase the
signal (as does higher cranking speed).

If you haven't changed the wire colors of the connector on the distributor, you should have the red wire as ground and the black wire as the signal out to the Megasquirt.

Thanks guys,

I found that the the wires were crossed over. The air gap was fine though, I had checked that before I put it in but I rechecked it anyway:).

Had the engine running for a while :) but got some other problems to work through now :(
