Newbie Q on GM DIS

Post by reece146 »

A couple of searches haven't fully answered my question... and all the new terminology has me a little muddled at the moment.

I want to convert a 1990 Chevrolet SB w/ GM TBI to distributorless so that I can relocate the engine further back in the chassis for better balance and front radiator clearance.

What MegaSquirt components do I need to add to do this? Or is there another aftermaket solution or GM parts bins stuff I can use to do this? Cost is a factor but so is PITA-factor.

I'm content with the GM EFI for now; the vehicle in question is not about ultimate engine performance. Packaging is more important at this point.

TIA!

At this point Ford's EDIS is a much more 'proven' conversion than the GM DIS. So this might make a better conversion (EDIS-8 is much more common than GM DIS for V8s as well).

If you want to experiment with GM's DIS, start here: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/GM_DIS.htm and here: http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?p=79435#79435 and here: http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=4559

Lance.
Thanks for the pointers.

My intent is KISS.

If I retrofit the Ford EDIS, is there a way for the GM TBI system to tell it when to advance/retard? Or am I committed to putting in a non-OEM ECU/CPU at that point?

I'm not adverse to that idea eventually, just would like a quick solution that doesn't rely on limp home mode for the ignition in the meantime while the rest of the car is being sorted.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I did stumble across this:

I dunno if anyone here has attempted to use this but it fits what I'm trying to do better (simpler, cheaper).
