edis help please step #50 decision

Post by warlockpain »

according to the megamanual it says build both circuits and only jumper the one you are gonna use. it also states for edis to jumper at the hall circuit:

To install EDIS with MegaSquirt-II, you connect:

V3.0 main board:
DB37 pin #36 to the SAW pin (#3) on the ignition module
DB37 pin #24 to the PIP pin (#1) on the ignition module
On the V3.0 main board:
use the 'Hall sensor circuit' (step #50 in the assembly guide),
jumper OPTIN to TACHSELECT on the bottom side of the PCB, near the DB37 connector, opposite the heat sink,
jumper TSEL to OPTOUT on the bottom side of the PCB, near the center.
jumper JS10 to IGN (this uses the processor port for the SAW signal directly),
jumper XG1 to XG2 on the bottom side of the PCB, near the 40 pin socket,

however it refers several times to the vr sensor.
my question is shouldn't it be jumpered on the vr circuit? is there any way to accomplish this without all the jumpering? also should i build both circuits or just one? if one, then which one?

No you can't configure the Megasquirt for EDIS without using jumpers, the board is designed to be mostly universal, jumpers need to be installed for any type of ignition.

You need to configure the board for EDIS PIP input, and EDIS SAW output. There's a few ways of doing it for EDIS I would stick to the Manual.

You should install the Opto isolator componants. Something like 6 componants versus 16. Plus the Opto is tried and true to work with EDIS.

If your kit came with all the componants, unless there's areason not to, why not install them all? Your choice.

The VR sensor that the manual is talking about on the EDIS install page is the VR sensor that hooks up to the EDIS module.

Don't forget before you try to fire it up, you need to configure Megatune and the MS2 firmware for EDIS.

Trigger offset = 10° (this will vary, depending on the wheel/pickup configuration),
Ignition Input Capture to 'Falling Edge',
Cranking Trigger to 'Trigger Return',
Coil Charging Scheme to 'EDIS',
Spark Output to 'Going High (Inverted)'.
