MSII / MSD Ignition Option Advice Needed

Post by johnc32779 »

I need some help sorting out ignition options for my configuration which is:

MSII-V3.0 / 2.683 / MT2.25
60-2 timing wheel with VR pickup
VB921 IGBT with pull-up driving MSD-6A

The relevant ignition options are currently set to:

Ignition Input Capture -- Rising Edge
Cranking Trigger – Trigger Rise
Coil Charging Scheme – Standard Coil Charge
Spark Output – Going High (Inverted)
Maximum Spark Duration (ms) -- 2.0

So far I have not noticed any problems with these settings. However, in searching the forums and reading http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/msd6a.htm I have not been able to resolve in my mind whether or not the above ignition options are correct – specifically Spark Output and Maximum Spark Duration.

Lance's afore referenced manual section states Spark Output should be “Going Low (Normal)” and Maximum Spark Duration = 25.5 ms. But in the Forums I find references which state with a VB921 driving an MSD the Spark Output should be “Going High (Inverted)”. Anyway, I haven't been able to resolve it in my mind since my current configuration seems to be working.

In summary, what Spark Output configuration and Maximum Spark Duration should I use?

I decided to give the settings recommend in http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/msd6a.htm
a whirl. Namely Spark Ouput = Going Low (Normal) and Maximum Spark Duration = 25.5 ms.

After resetting the timing everything seems fine. Other the other hand, other than a shift in timing point, I haven't noticed any difference from my original setting.

This is what I use for my VR Input/VB921/MSD6AL combo. Using 2.683 code.
