57lb injectors too big or not ??

Post by quattrodave »

Hiya guys,

I'm having a few idleing problems, i just wanted to check that the injectors are too big or not. 57lb low impediance injectors audi 1b 5 cylinder 2.2L Turbo engine.

Oh secondly can MS2 run low impediance injectors directly??

Many thanks

What kind of idle problems are you having? Are you still using the stock ECU for spark and the idle air solenoid? I've been working on a friends Audi 5000 with a 10valve and it doesn't always hold a nice idle with the stock ECU hooked up to the IAS. Megasquirt is only controlling fuel. He's running 42Lbs injectors with no idle problems otherwise, he needs to step up to 57-60lbs injectors though, and from all I can tell it shouldn't be a problem idle-wise.

Hiya,

Yeah i'm running the same set up with the original ECU running controlling ignition, idle solenoid has been disconected at the moment. The car just runs like crap, I'm clutching at straws really now.

Where have you taken the tach pulse from??

Many thanks

Those should run just fine. Image

Yes. Both the v2.2 and v3.0 boards can run PWM or you can use inline resistors.

Thanks guys,

Injectors are siemens 3102 rated @ 2.8 ohms. I measured resistance accross all 5 @ 0.7 ohms.
What would be the best way to run them PWM or resistors??

Many thanks

Dave

[EDIT]

Just done my calculations again,

5x injectors @ 2.8 ohms = 0.56 ohms
4x injectors @ 2.8 ohms = 0.7 ohms

hmmmmm, i think i may have a loose connection on my injector wiring !!!

You can run them either way, with or without resistors. As for the injectors being too big, what is your REQ_FUEL now? I was running 42 lb injectors in a 2.0L turbo and I too had idling problems. My req_fuel was down around 1.5 ms, and I think it was just too low to control. So, I dropped down to lower 30's for injectors.

Hiya,

REQ_FUEL 5.0, Injector PWM around 2.4 at idle with 5 x 57lb injectors.

Many thanks

Originally he was pulling the tach signal from the coil output of the stock ECU, but after rewiring everything I decided the tach line coming from the ECU was a better choice. Unfortunately, it still spikes occasionally, but we haven't done the dave capacitor yet.

Dave, sure thing.

Thats what I think to be the latest MSQ we used. Its for the latest firmware, 029qv2 IIRC. Good luck!
