Megasquirt with c20xe

Post by Azz259 »

Hi all, im new to this megasquirt ecu and need some pointing in the right direction if you may,
Im currently building a xe with a shortened cam and dizzy blanked off, newman 270 cams , deep pocketed pistons , standard fuel injection system and your ecu but im unsure which one i need to go for

I want the cheapest option but ive read a lot about the ms1 and ms2 and i think the ms2 would be better suited, or do you think the ms1 will be fine for me?

I need some advice on which ecu comes ready to use the crank sensor only , i want it to run my fuel and ignition

Any help would be appreciated thanks Arwyn

What sort of a crank sensor is it? If it uses a 60-2 crank trigger, while you can get by with an MS1 with it, the MS2 can deliver much more accurate timing as well as more precise fuel control.

Yes, these Vauxhall engines use a 60-2. The crank sensor alone can be used to run wasted spark (or single coil) and batch fire fuel just fine.
I've helped tune a couple of them.

Also consider the Microsquirt.

Ok guys thanks, would the ms1 come ready to go to use crank sensor or would i have to open up the ecu? Im ok with wiring but i dont fancy getting into the guts of the ecu :-)

ill have a look at the microsquirt

One thing im not sure of is where would the rpm cable go to, does it come from crank sensor to ecu then from there to my dashboard? Thanks

The crank sensor is VR type and requires a "VR conditioner circuit" the "V2.2 mainboard" does not have that, so you need either MS1/V3 or MS2/V3 or Microsquirt. Typical base prices are $360, $435, $339. You also need to decide what coil to use. This will determine any special options for the Megasquirt (i.e. coil drivers.)

The tachometer will typically be connected to a "tacho output" on the ECU.

Do you have a coilpack already? If not, the VW 032 905 106B is a simple connection and typically around £30. I recently installed one on a C20.

EDIT: You might want to take a look at the PDF manuals on the Downloads page to get a feel for what is needed to install an ECU.
