Bee*R Rev Limiter discuss (non MS related)
Hi guys, I'm sure you had heard of the Bee*R rev limiter, for those who don't, here's a video of it in action
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQQUe7r2cVQ
As you can see, the Bee*R made it spit flames as if there was a flamethrower kit, but it doesn't. I was trying to figure out hard on how it works, then stumbled upon this thread.
http://www.driftworks.com/forum/technic ... miter.html
So from what I deduced from that thread, the Bee*R rev limiter cuts sparks on a time-basis and when it reintroduce the spark back, it can be anywhere from 40deg ATDC to even 40deg BTDC and firing at random cylinders.
Purpose of this thread is just to discuss the use of Bee*R rev limiter, how it actually works(my explanation above could be wrong), how safe it is, and *ahem* if something like this can be implemanted in MS. Fire spitting mode anyone? Since I can't seem to replicate anywhere close to this amount of flames with 2-step or anti lag

Yes I admit a proper 2-step works better for that purpose, but still interested in how the Bee*R really works and how it can induce such flames. Just for the cool factor reallysubwoofer wrote:My $.02: utterly useless and downright dangerous.
Definitely won't do it on my own car, seeing the muffler itself glowing red, god knows what the turbo temps are
And here's some examples of the damage Bee*R can do

I believe it's just a combination of spark retard and spark cut - which are incorporated into the MegaSquirt rev limiter code. With the MS, you can also turn off the fuel at the same time to prevent the fireballs, if you're not into the whole exploding muffler thing.

Yes the Megasquirt is based on precise cut and degree retard, but the BR does not have accurate input of crankshaft degrees and etc. From what I deduced from that thread, the Bee*R cuts and restore sparks using time-based methods, so in terms of crankshaft degrees, is totally random, i think.Matt Cramer wrote:I believe it's just a combination of spark retard and spark cut - which are incorporated into the MegaSquirt rev limiter code. Exploded exhaust systems get boring in a hurry.

But, boy are they fun to watch! I knew this one wingnut who liked to play with the cagers while going through tunnels at night - hit the kill switch and pin the throttle, filling the cyls and header with mix (carb'd bike). When he flipped the switch back on, the mix exploded with this great gout of flame coming out the back. At the same time, he'd swing his center stand down and put all his weight on the foot, sending showers of sparks down the road behind him. A truly impressive simulation of massive engine failure!jsmcortina wrote:Exploded exhaust systems get boring in a hurry.

As all good things must come to an end, one glorious night he did this once too often and blew the header off his engine. Unfortunately, it didn't completely separate from the midpipe and muffler bolted to his rear frame; the headers swung down, and somehow dug into an oncoming pothole. Levers are wonderful things, except when they pole-vault your bike into the air at 50-60km/h ...
Temporarily shut down - back soon!
