total newbie lots of questions fiat F.I.R.E turbo engine

Post by lecook »

Hi guys and girls,

As mentioned im a total newbie here and have little to no knowlage of megasquirt or even engine management, however I see myself as compitent in mechanics and a keen learner.

So, heres my plan, ive currently got a fiat cinquecento fitted with a 1.2 16v engine from a mk2 punto sporting, however much fun it is...this just isnt enough :p

What I have so far is a decompressed fiat F.I.R.E 1242cc 8v engine from a mk1 fiat punto 75, decompressed via 16v pistons rather then the usual decomp plate, itll be run with standard inlet manifold woth a custom made modified exhaust manifold cut down with a plate welded on for mounting of the turbo,my plans are to swap the 16v na out for the 8v turbo, im after a few gadgets and toys aswell as a well fuelled reliable engine,

im after the likes of solanoid boost control, launch control and possibly antilag, aswell as switchable maps and the ability to plug in via usb

however.. as said im totally new to this and will be after alot of guidance and info (please excuse me if I ask silly questions) but basically im after some guidance of things ill need to find out about my engine before I can order my ms, I know that its been done before on this engine using the ms2v3 and i know its also been used on the 16v engine using the same trigger wheels and coil packs that I shall be using.. however im new to the technical/electrical side of engines

so if anyone could give me a little guidance on what ill need and what too look for then id be extremly greatful

cheers in advance

For rally antilag, you'll want an MS3. Were you thinking kit or ready to run?

Im looking ideally at ready to run as im not confident with soldering nor do I have the tools to do so

anti lag is no biggie, its more of a toy then for any competition use

cheers

Have you had a look through the product pages?

As you want to buy a ready to use ECU, there are a few main choices
- either you buy one of the "pro" type ECUs
- or you buy a pre-made "traditional" ECU from one of the many Megasquirt resellers.

Sounds like a cool project, I've always liked the smaller higher revving stuff. Any pictures?

Cheers jsmcortina, that made things alot less complicated, so im looking purchasing the ms2 with all the optional extras.. I plan on using all standard sensors, does anyone know if this is possible or is more info needed on the sensors used as standard?? Ive read that the stepper type icv isnt supported by ms2 or have I been reading old articles??

@elutionsdesign ill see if I can link in some pics for you in her current state (still learning how to use this forum lol )

Meet imola :) shes a 1997 fiat cinquecento sporting with many many mods :) we have a love/hate relationship (I love it, it hates me) but this car has made me smile every day ive driven her from the day I bought it, and ive spent many a hr modifying, upgrading and refinishing different bits :)

Please excuse the different heights (mot time :( ), shes no show winner yet but ive got some big plans, obviously the turbo build ( hopefully around 140-150bhp ) and ms2 aswell as a bunch of bodywork and hopefully a new set of wheels

Shes come a long way in the 3 years ive owned her

all feedback, thoughts and opinions welcome and cheers for the help so far guys

much appreciated as always
