ring on injector tip - can someone tell me what this is ?

I have a set of used injectors here that I intend to test for flow rating and hopefully make a set of flow matched ones out of them.

After removing the pintle cap, I found this :



What is this and what caused it ? Any problem for the injectors in question ?

It's actually a ring imbedded in the tip. Feels like some sort of corrosion of sorts.

I think the ring is a result of the manufacturing process. The ring is where the outer metal of the injector's tip has been subjected to some sort of welding to attach it to the metal beneath.

Here's an example (with pictures) that I just found on the interweb showing an injector that appears very similar (if not completely identical) to yours. The guy in the forum thread is working on a Mitsubishi VR4 and he's showing the results of having this set of injectors professionally cleaned and tested. The "take-away information" is that the professional injector cleaning/testing company didn't mention or comment on the "ring" as unusual for these injectors.

Ok, thanks, just tested all of them and they seem to perform flawless. As an added bonus, I can get my injectors to within 1.5% accurate now.
