BMW M20 NA E34 timing err in gear

So I can get a decent running motor at idle in park or neutral ..but in gear if I don't give it some gas it will start hunting..
I worked out the oil pressure and brake light error when things smoothed out.. . the CEL I had before on my logs was caused by it checking
for a non exisitant EGT .... MY MAIN PROBLEM IS THIS TIMING ERR

I think I need to stop this timing err. I was thinking of using a 20k instead of a 10k inline pot from crank sensor to see if that helps.

Anyone have a suggestions??

You have a huge amount off sync loss going on there, you really need a rock solid rpm signal before you can tune it, can you get a new tooth log of this? so can see whats going on.

Yeah I see that .. I'm thinking about trying the 20 k R ....or trying a 5k inline with crank positive

I went through the Hardware getting started guide and I adjusted R56 and R52 to the far left... not I am golden on the Sync loss.. no more weird s*** in gear.

Thanks again grom for pointing me in the right direction.! I might not have even needed the 10k in the first place...

good stuff was going to be my next guess, have you lost the slightly longer bar next to the really long one now? it is quite common to need the 10k on the v3.57 boards with a 60-2 wheel, you could always omit it and if you start getting sync loss at high rpm then you know to pop it back in.

So now with those r52 and r56 pots adjusted it runs good but is hard as duckto start... I'm going to try removing that 10 k
..if that doesn't work I'm going to put in a 10 k pot of my own...

son of a son of a biyotxch... I'm so close ... looks at this timing signal...it's bad

removed the 10 K now I have the same old problem of sputtering at 2 to 3 k rpm.......duck duck duck....tomorrow I'm going to put a 20 k pot and duck with it till it gets better

Don't suppose you managed to get a tooth log of it running since you did the pots?

still have bad sync problems... once it gets started it won't lose any sync but getting it syncd to start is another thing

Heres the major problem....look at this tooth while cranking this is with a 10 k inline....i tried a 5k too...I think I need to adj r52 and 56 ...it started better before I turned them all the way cc

from that you see the 2 long lines it almost looks like your triggering off the wrong edge of the vr sensor, have a look at this http://nusmi.free.fr/MsVR/compar_log.jpg. could try changing from falling to rising or the other way round if that dont help may need to twiddle the pots some more

that last log did look good. will mean you need to check and adjust the tooth1 number it will prob be 84 if using rising edge.

GROM.... success ... driving around town tuning with my AFR targets and my wideband lamba. 8) :D :lol:

THX for all your help. Now for the finer parts like setting up the eco gauge and installing nitrous!!
Then on to sequential like you with those d585 coils..

Did you use your stock speed sensor for VSS input? any tips? I don't see much on the internet about it.

rear wheel speed = Stock speed sensor from the diff, i picked up the signal at pin 29 of motronic ecu connector white and black wire fed straight in to one of the ground switching inputs on the ms3x card no messing about just works great

I like it!!... I'm also going to wire my ECO gauge motronic pin 32 to the fuel injector bank one have you done this?... I have heard this will revive my eco gauge and MPGs info if you have stock injectors...

Also want to make an MPG custom calculation soon on tuner studio.....once I have this speed input.

I'm loving my new megasquirt.... NO2 time! turbo time!

also grom what are you sensor teeth settings on the VSS I have digital input on launch in with 9 teeth with a wheel diameter of .595 and a lag factor of 50.

what do you have for these items... I have 15 in stock rims with 205 65 r15
