Wheel Speed - Mag Encoder

Post by johnt2k7 »

Im swapping a EG33 into a newer Subaru chassis. it has no vss in the transmission or differential. Apparently the Stock PCM gets that signal from the ABS. It uses Magnetic encoder with alternating fields in each axle/bearing & uses a 2 wire sensor, I cant find much on what kind of signal it produces ?

Im wondering if anyone has run into this before, and what type of conditioning needs to be done to the signal to either be brought into Megasquirt or into a Arduino or Similar microcontroller.

Im already planning on using a arduino or similar to perform some other Body Control Module like Functions on the chassis. So i could add a GPS Module and output its signal to a Speedo or a 7 Segment display. but would like to use the onboard wheel speed sensors if possible for a more realtime/accurate Vehicle Speed.

That sounds like a VR sensor and this is what is commonly used for that application. You'd need something like this to condition the signal into a 0-5V square wave signal.
