help with MS2 input/output wiring and Tuner Studio setup

Post by Twinkies »

My MS2 v.357 is installed and running, but Im very confused with input and output wiring/programming for launch control and radiator fan relay.
Its an assembled unit from DIYautotune with pre-wired 37 pin harness.

The supplied wiring diagram does not correspond with settings options in Tuner Studio and I can't find descriptions for these pins in the manual.

Out of the MS2 37 pin harness I have SPR1, SPR2, SPR3, SPR4, IAC1A, IAC1B, IAC2A, IAC2B.

In Tuner Studio, launch control has input pin options PEO/JS7, PE1, JS10, JS11, JS5, JS4, etc

In Tuner Studio, programmable on/off outputs options are FIDLE, LED D14, LED D15, LED D16, PT7 IAC1, PT6 IAC2, JS11 (PA0)

Can somebody please link me up or translate this for me?
Also, I don't understand programming these outputs. I need +12v for the radiator fan relay, and obviously ground from the clutch switch for the launch control.
Help?

See the MS2V357 Hardware Manual from the Manuals link above.

The SPR and IAC stuff on the 37 pin connector are a way for you to route wiring through the main harness to the board, they are "spare pins" in many cases although if you're running idle stepper control or other features some may be taken. There are other ways to do that same function, you can simply drill a hole in the case and run a wire through that to whatever you're doing such as launch control but running it through the harness is cleaner and long term more reliable.

You should as James pointed out refer to the manuals for the input pin options, the schematics will show where these can be physically found on the board. Again, planning ahead is key because some of the pin options may not be available depending upon what you needed to make your ignition work. Example, if you're running waste spark on a V8 then likely all the LED's are used.

And you'll need to build some circuits for the launch and radiator fan relay interface. Note that the ECU typically does not supply 12 volts, it supplies a ground switch and normally can't handle the amp load of a fan so you'd need a relay. If you dig through the manuals you will find all the answers.

Thanks for the replies...

For anyone else looking for answers, heres what I figured out today.

The pre-assembled MS2 is only pre-wired (jumpered) for SPR1, SPR2 Can wiring. SPR3 and SPR4 are not jumpered to anything on the board. IAC1 and IAC2 A nd B are already jumpered.

IAC outputs will rest at ground with key off. This is important to know when wiring a relay for something like a radiator fan. IAC1A will rest at ground until output parameters trigger a +12v. IAC1B will do the opposite.

I had to jumper and solder the SPR3 wire to JS4 on the board for the clutch input for launch control.

I wish the manual was more clear about input/output functions in laymans terms. Its taken me way longer to figure out these two wires than it did to wire up all the standard input/outputs and get a decent base tune in Tuner Studio.

Could you explain further what was difficult and how it could have been better?

For ready made units with all their inputs and outputs ready to use, Microsquirt or MS3-Pro are the best bet.
