Breather and IAT sensor location.

Post by gtmdriver »

I had intended to mount my intake air temperature sensor in my air filter but I also need to connect the engine breather tube to the intake system somewhere on the atmosphere side of the throttle body.

Will the fumes from the breather heat the inlet air sufficiently to cause a problem in which case should the temperature sensor be downstream of the breather inlet?

You want an accurate representation of what the engine is breathing so if you've got that much blow by causing the intake air to be higher in temperature then you want to measure it. What you don't want is a bunch of radiant heat from the exhaust manifold skewing the sensor reading.

It's a Beetle engine so the exhaust manifold is a good way from the intake system but I take your point regarding the breather outlet affecting the temperature.
