2000jeeptj 2.5l/turbo getting spark and fuel b will not run
ms2 3.57 tunerstudio2.6.19
Hi guys,
I've heard great things about megasquirt. In theory it should be the perfect solution to my need for timing and fuel injection control with my turbo setup.
However to the best of my knowledge I have everything wired correctly but I cant get this to run with my ms2 3.57.
Ive got my dad whos a mechanic helping me with this a bit. We've been able to get a reading from the hall effect crank position sensor and its delivering fuel and spark.
We Were able to play around a bit with the timing, but I'm not convinced Its set to the right spark mode even though its reading rpm, and were able to get the timing light same as what mega squirt thinks is base timing(while cranking). Its set at basic trigger in tunerstudio which from reading the manual shouldnt work.
Its actually getting too much fuel as well the plugs are soaked.
I'm working with a 2000 jeep tj 2.5l/4 cyl
-similar to 4.0/6 with 2 less cylinders
-this engine has a single coil/ distributor
-I'm using the factory hall effect crank sensor
-high impedence injectors in batch fire
- my fly wheel has 2 "patches" of 4 square notches 1 1/2" from eachother. these "patches"
are placed 180 degress apart on the flywheel.
To start with.. Which spark mode should I use
my project dosent seem to be commonly done so I'm pretty lost
thanks for any input

Re: 2000jeeptj 2.5l/turbo getting spark and fuel b will not
Two things.
1. if I'm understanding the flywheel pattern, then it alone will only give enough information for a single coil. (With a cam sensor it could give enough information for sequential fuel or spark.)
2. that pattern isn't supported in MS2 presently.

Hi James,
Thanks for the help eh, I'll try using cam position instead and see how she goes.

Re: 2000jeeptj 2.5l/turbo getting spark and fuel b will not
I think James is saying to leave it the way it is. The two pulses per crank revolution, fed into the tachin, is sufficient for "basic trigger". The mention of cam was in reference to what would be needed to get sequential, but that is not supported presently. If you have spark, and the timing at the crank corresponds to what MS is commanding, then that is another hint to leave it like you have it; but, it wouldn't hurt to check that timing on all cylinders.
Disabling the injectors, by disconnecting the 12V power feed to them ( pull fuse, relay, whatever) and trying to start it with a quick blast of starting-fluid is a quick-and-easy way to determine if the ignition is probably OK and this is *just* a fueling issue.

A photo of the flywheel pattern would help, but it sounds like an uneven pattern that is not currently supported. I.e. it won't work.

The Jeep 2.5 appears to be a four cylinder version of the "Jeep 2000" mode, with two clusters of four notches instead of three clusters of four notches. I haven't seen it on any other motors, and don't have the exact spacing info.

Hey guys,
Yeah I I'll try to send a pic of the same flywheel from my phone.
Thanks

Get a real camera, I can hardly recognize that as a flywheel, much less any detail. And, show the whole flywheel so we can see what the "pattern" looks like; the relationship of trigger features to each other.
