What is the world coming to, I turn my back for 5 mins only to discover that what I had probably been sold as 'the future of automotive engineering, has in fact become the past and is obsolete!
Well, when I say 5 mins, it is a bit more like 10 years since I was last here, so does this mean I need to consign my original (first UK batch) MS1 to the Megasquirt museum ?
So, anyway, after spending the last 11 years with another owner, Doris (V8Mini) has returned home, and is in need of a little attention as 'some assembly may be required' because she has been off the road for a few years after being part stripped for some clutch/flywheel tinkering, and other mechanical issues.
Off to go loft rummaging later to see if I can find the stim and any other MS related goodies, so I can power up the (old/obsolete ;) MS from the car to look for signs of life.
When the engine & box are back together, I suppose I'll have to consider finally getting rid of the dizzy, and maybe sticking on Edis 8, unless that's not also obsolete, and there's a new improved plasma/fusion warp ignition module ready for beta testing

Depending on how Brexit work out for you all, finding another rock to hide under for the next 10 years might be a good option. MS4 might be out by then...
As for the best ignition upgrade from a dizy would be LS2 coils. Easy to use and all the high current switching is done in the coil instead of in the ECU. I did the LS2 coil swap in 08 on a SBFord, ran them in waste spark with a MS2.

306 SBFord, Torquer II EFI intake, 60 lbs injectors, 8 LS2 coils, VS Racing 7668 turbo, 4R70W, MS3x fw1.4 w/built in trans controller.

LS2 coils can be pretty pricey in the UK- as they can't be easily found used. Whereas EDIS coils can.
There's not really a downside on using EDIS complete on a standardish RV8. And EDIS will work with an MS1.

Well, the good news is the MS1 1.1 from the car ran up on the Stim, and chats happily to MegaTune, so have backed up the config. Which is nice.
The MS1 2.2 from the loft works too and is running a version of Extra, so is probably a clone of the unit I stuck on the 4Age with Edis.
Looks like I will be able to fire the engine up as is, and have a spare box for some ignition experimenting when I get to that bit
Any recommendations on supplier for a trigger wheel? Wouldn't hurt to have one in stock ;)
Cheers

The trigger wheel isn't a problem. Just do a search to find the best value. How easy it is to fit depends on the various pulley combinations - and the bracket for the VR sensor may be a problem too. There are a zillion different versions when it comes to engine accessories. On my SD1 with air con, I couldn't use the VR sensor bracket everyone seems to supply for the RV8. But if your engine is pretty basic as regards belt driven bits, you may be ok.spag wrote:Well, the good news is the MS1 1.1 from the car ran up on the Stim, and chats happily to MegaTune, so have backed up the config. You might think about buying an MS2 processor card. For about £100 you'll get the benefit of later software, if nothing else.
