Introducing the MS3Pro Ultimate

Post by Matt Cramer »

This version of the MS3-Pro made its debut at PRI, and its expected ship date will be January 17th. This is a high end version of the MS3-Pro, with a couple features added:

- We've upgraded the injector drivers to software selectable peak and hold drivers. You can run them in 4 amps peak / 1 amp hold or 8 amps peak / 2 amps hold.
- The spare analog inputs have been boosted from 3 inputs to 8.
- We've added an internal 4 bar MAP sensor and a baro sensor.
- There are 5 more on/off outputs.
- We have added two extra VR conditioners.
- More on/off inputs as well.
- Diagnostic lights to indicate the ECU status.
- A keep alive power wire allows for delayed shutdowns. This will allow some future firmware tricks that would require saving data after you turn off the ECU.
- We've brought back the optoisolator, in case you need to trigger it off a coil negative terminal.
- And there have been some incremental improvements to the internal grounding, case sealing, etc.

This one is priced at $1499 with an 8' flying lead harness. Don't worry, we'll still be selling an entry level MS3-Pro if you don't need the peak and hold drivers or extra I/O.

The first batch is shipping today, right on schedule.

(Edited - looks like it was delayed by one day, but they are starting to get out the door.)

You can see what the new software looks like by getting the newest release code from this thread

http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... 31&t=64971

Note that you will need to update your Tuner Studio to the latest release to see all the new features.

Here is my Honda B18C on the dyno running a Ultimate.

Way cool stuff....

I am getting data rates of 50 samples per sec on my Ultimate. I am getting clean starts with it taking about .5 sec from the time the code catches sync till the time the motor is running. I am using the new crank curve filtering and all is good.

I hope to have it on track in about a month.

I have it taped into the original MS3/MS3x wiring. I will clean up the that single wire out of the harness. I also need to mount the Microsquirt that I will be using as an extended IO box.

Why not use the additional I/O on the middle connector instead of the IO-box ??

Just for the sake of playing and learning. Speed sensors, ride height sensors, tire temp sensors.... who knows where this may go?

Learning the IO-box is good, but do take a look at the additional I/O on the Ultimate.

I now am logging at 200 records per sec. I also and have the ability to hook up a 50 foot long Cat5 cable extender on the Ultimat's serial cable connection. This makes it so I can park the race car next to the race trailer and upload the data logs from the controlled environment where I can see the computer screen. Other people are logging at 350 samples per sec with the Ultimate. Way cool stuff.

Whittlebeast have you been able to use the factory cyp and ckp sensor with the ms3 pro with out any timing drift?

I wound up building a dizzy using a 40 tooth with Hall crank sensor at cam speed. I really get one tooth for every 18 degrees of crank rotation. I also built an optical pickup for the crank sensor. "I think" the issue is when you mix and match pickup designs, VR and Hall on the same motor. Timing and startup are rock solid now.

http://www.nbs-stl.com/CrxTypeR/Dizzy%204.jpg

see http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... 34&t=65477 for more info.

I think this was not really an MS Ultimate issue as it was a phase shift issue as the RPM went for a 175 RPM cranking speed up thru 8500 max RPM. I kept winding up with the the cam tooth trigger edge on one side or the other side of tooth one, depending on the RPM. Early in development of this motor, I was swapping back and forth from Ultimate and MS3x. Now I am now on Ultimate only.

Thank you sir. I'll try the factory VR sensors on ultimate and see what happens.

I have an MS3Pro 1st gen and am evaluating upgrading
Can I use the same harnesses (i.e. is it plug-and-play - same pin locations)?

Is the only real change that the 12V needs to be always-on?

I run a separate CAN controller - is that now embedded in the MS? That would save me some complexity

Thanks

Yes, you would just need to add the keep alive power on the center connector, and the communications connections in the harness won't be used.

We simply added an extra CAN connector in addition to the one already in the harness. The ideas is that you'll be able to daisy chain future products using a standard M12 cable.
