Do I need more than Microsquirt?

Post by iniviate »

Older turbo 4 cylinder. E85, No A/C, not a daily driver.

I believe the stock computer was sequential injection. I don't care much about that.

I want to use a wideband and have a knock sensor. I believe microsquirt is capable of both with the correct controllers.

looking at this
https://www.diyautotune.com/product/inn ... auge-3795/

and this...
http://www.viatrack.ca/

Are there better options for wideband and knock? i'm not real concerned with gauges, I'll be data logging pretty much anytime I drive the car.

So i'm looking at...

Microsquirt w/ 30" harness - $339
Wideband - $219
knock sensor w/ controller - $65
crank trigger - $70ish

Am I missing anything else? should I run MS2 or 3 over microsquirt and why?

Thanks!

How are yuo handling spark? Are there any fancy features you might want?

Take a look at the feature chart below; it the uS does everything you want, great! If you run out of pins, or a particular function isn't available, you might need to modify your plans.

If you're doing boost with E85, I'd look more towards the MS3 (MS3X specifically) or the MS3Pro. MS2/Microsquirt is capable of flex fuel but at a basic level.

MS3/MS3X can have a knock module added in.
MS3Pro has a knock module built in.
MS3X/MS3Pro allows for true flex fuel based on table blending. MS2/Microsquirt handles flex fuel as a single fuel and timing adder.

Microsquirt will do what you need but I think you'll be happier with an MS3 based unit.

Have I said it recently? The price difference between MS3 and the lessor variants is trivial if you are willing to assemble the kit. And, if future trouble-shooting is needed, is the schematic for the Micro even available? Size and weather-proofing are the only distinct advantages that I see for the Micro, and those don't usually matter for a car/truck install.

That's why you buy instead of leasing, even with the lesser variants. :D :P
