I am building a jet boat with a Jag engine V8 XKR 4.0 AJ27
Job is almost done & I need to start the engine
Stock Denso ECU is hard to work on I'd like a megasquirt system
Could you help me find the right module & start the process

Step up to the MS3Pro from DIYautotune.com, it has the "water proofing" you are probably going to need.

The first step is determining the crank and cam trigger pattern on this engine. I suspect it's Ford's 36-1 trigger pattern, but this is where you see the most variations between engines.

Crank pattern is the number of holes in the flywheel minus one , isn't it ?
Cam pettern I need to look , how do I ? Is it visible by the sensor location if I open the cover ?

36-1 would have 36 real teeth, except one is missing, so there's a total of 35 teeth and a one tooth gap. The teeth would be 10 degrees apart. If you have that crank pattern, there's ways of making it work with just about every cam pattern they were paired with from the factory. If the cam pattern is not plainly visible, you'll be able to read it with the MegaSquirt.

Can you post a picture/sketch of what the existing crank sensor/wheel configuration is? I'm not clear about what those "holes in the flywheel" look like. Is this an auto trans with flex-plate?

Ah, that's a nice-and-easy 36-1 pattern. The one "D-shaped" hole is a bit different, but the effective width is pretty much the same as the others, so shouldn't be a problem if the sensor is reasonably centered over the holes. Just curious, does the sensor mount to the block, or to the bell-housing/trans?

By looking at your pictures I would relocate that sensor and use a separate 36-1 wheel.jagboat wrote:Sensor on the block , below the case
Looks like you need to unscrew the sump to get to the sensor.
On the car you need to lift the car to get to the bottom.
In your boot you probably need to lift the engine to get acces to the sensor.
What or who did make that hole near the sensor ?

Ha, good point about needing access to the CKP sensor/wiring! Any chance of moving it to the top of the bell-housing/pump-adapter?
Edit: I peeked at the photos in the referenced forum. They tell me more about what you are doing, but I see stuff pertaining to the original Ford 460, plus the Jag, and even an SBC in a couple. Perhaps it would help if you posted some photos of what you have now. I kind of assume it is that "billet" pump-adapter, and if you can make that, surely you can add a mount to it for the CKP sensor!

What is the problem with the ckp sensor location ?
Can I use this one ?
What is the problem with the flywheel ?
Hole was there in oem casting
Other 36/1 wheel seems complicate to make

The crank wheel looks fine to me, but do you have access to the CKP sensor when the engine is installed near the bottom of the boat? If so, even if kind of miserable access, then the sensor is OK. How about water down there, do you think it will slosh up onto the sensor wiring? The connector probably is, or can be, sealed good enough, but it is another consideration.
I wanted to see a closer view of the engine/adapter/pump arrangement. It still isn't clear to me if the stock Jag BH is used with the billet adapter, of if the adapter is used in place of the BH.

If you install this engine in your boot, you probably can't reach the sensor easy.

Jag BH is used , the adapter is bolted on it
CKP is ok in access
No water is planned that high in the bottom so it can reach the ckp & if so there is a bilge pump & if so I have life jacket !!
