NGK R5671A-8 Spark Plug

Post by Raymond_B »

Been trying to find a resistor version of the NGK part # R5671A-8,9,or 10 with no luck. I plan on contacting NGK on Tuesday, but I am hoping some of you guys have already run in to this.

I've noticed these strange ngk part codes you guys post on here. Is that a US thing? In Australia it's much easier.

B = 14x1.25
C = 5/8"
R = resistor
# = your heat range
E = 19mm reach
n = special electrode

The n on your plug is Y I think. BCR6EY is what would be printed on the box for a 6 range plug of that design. If you want it pre-gapped there are some options that end the part code -9 -11 -13 etc... Theses are 10ths of a mm.

Maybe, but I think NGK's part #'s are pretty universal. The plugs I listed are very cold non-projected tip which seems to be the issue. Most of the resistor plugs have a projected tip and then they do not go as cold as the "race" plugs. I am just worried about E85 and pre-ignition with an extended tip.

Okay. You want projected insulator. You'll be BCPR#En

BCPR9ES is a common 4g63 plug. Is that what you're working on?

Sorry. Phone auto corrected and removed the C. That part code without the C is 4g63.

It looks like BCPR9ES-11 is something that can be ordered.

It's a small block Ford with TFS heads. Thanks for the clarification! I'll check that part # out.

If you can't find the right resistor type, try the NGK sparkplug caps they are also available in a resistor type.

Thank you, and that's NGK's answer too, man with EFI becoming so predominant you'd think they would start looking at resistor type race plugs.

That's a bummer to me, I am not related to NGK so no bonus :(

Don't use most race engines electronic coils near or on plugs ?
That means they do have short to no HT leads, this way you only need to careful route the power wires to the coils.

Just an idea can't substantiate.

Most small block Windsor Fords still use a distributor and the super popular Chevrolet LS motors use CNP. I am running IGN-1A coils which sets me up like the LS (that hurts to say :)) so a 10-11" plug wire is still required. I've read here that non-resistor plugs cause issues with CNP setups as well. I am not sure about the direct attach coil on plug setups and non-resistor plugs.

What I've done is ordered a colder resistor projected tip plug (BKR6EY - 3696) to break the motor in (no boost and no E85) and make sure all my Megasquirt stuff is setup correctly. Then when it comes time to bolt up the Novi 2000 and swap to E85 I am going to try the R5671A-9 and see what happens. There simply is not a super cold, non projected tip, resistor plug out there.

I'd like to find something colder than my -7 plug for my LS. They are sold over seas and think I might order them off eBay. But like you wanted a resistor plug and posted here about running non resistor plugs. Was told not to, MS would freak out

That said, you can get spark plug boots with resistor in them

I'm running a BR7EF. Non projected, heat range 7 plug and have been well into 4 digits on e85 with only 2 threads burned and timing just rounding the corner on the ground strap and egt's in the 1350/1400 rannge

Good info, thank you! Just for info how much total timing are you running?

You got me thinking, my plug wires are going to be custom Firecores, I wonder if they offer a resistor boot? Time to give them a call :)

I've been adding timing and egt has been coming down! I'll look tonight but iirc I'm 18* out the top at 230kpa. I'm like 20* at 200kpa

When I get home I'll check it out
