First drive today, some concerns I'm wondering about?

Post by Spiffy »

Today I had the pleasure of driving my car for the first time since converting it from the Datsun bosch L-jetronic to a ms2 based ecu, I'm running fuel only, batch fire at the moment. I haven't tuned it properly though but here's my concerns:

-Noisy clt signal, spiking and sometimes dropping to well below zero. reviewing my log max temp recorded was over 170c. Any tips to where I should start to look or what to do?

-145% duty cycle under max boost. Is this even possible? At that point I wasn't even running lean :/ Is my fuel calculations wrong? they must be? I have no idea what size injectors are on there stock, I found 180cc somewhere online but I don't know if thats correct. Should I try to run test mode to find out how much they really are or should I just put my 440cc injectors in which I know are in fact 440cc and be done with it?

And I also need to rescale my fueling maps, no I'm running max 0.43 bar of boost but my end goal is 1.0 bar of boost, should I rescale to what I'm currently running or what I'm planning on running?

Thanks guys.

Some info on the car: It's a datsun 720 pickup with a Z20E engine and transmission, turbocharged using a stock rb25det turbo.

PS: I tried to upload a log file but it was too big (5mb)

Injector size is basic and this must be accurate to determine correct fuel requirements.
I'm not sure what coolant temp sender you are using but the noise and ignition problem leads me to think you have an electrical earth fault that will need to be sorted.
I would not even think about running boost until the basics are covered and engine is running well. Once your at this stage VE, IGN and AFR maps will need to be extended to 150kpa for better engine control.

I'm using the stock temp sensor, a Bosch unit. Checking wires and earth's are the first on my check list.
I haven't mentioned anything about an ignition problem?
Car is running pretty well actually, idles good, cruises fine, pretty rich under load though but for something running on more or less the startup map I'm impressed.
I'm gonna flow test the injectors to see what they really are.
Shouldn't the maps be resized to like 220kpa or something when that's what I'm gonna run in the end? If I go 150 then I would have to rescale again once I decide to go beyond wastegate spring pressure

I urge you to post the requested MSQ and MSL files to get the most meaningful help. If you only have the one MSL, it can be "trimmed down" in size using MLV; just post portions of it that shows some of the engine behavior you want to discuss.

Thanks I didn't know that. Here is a small section where you can see the peaks and how the coolant temp seems to rise with rpm

Did you build the ms2 board yourself?

EDIT: fixed a typo so my question makes sense

One simple check on grounding is to unplug MS and make sure there is no ground to the CTS.

No I don't know who produces it, it's megasquirt based, but designed by some guy locally here in Norway.

The guts of it. Not in the picture is the Bluetooth module that connects to the four pins at the top left of it
