Hi and a little help needed
Hi forum,
Been reading up for ages on this forum and decided to buy a ms1 v3 board along with a stim.
My setup is for a bmw E30 316i turbo conversion
I have built the ms board(not finished) and stim, stim has checked out to be working as per the manuals.
I'm now stuck on finishing my ms1 board.
So my setup consists of having the following extras
Boost control
Switchable maps
Wasted spark
I'm looking at tach outputs and getting stuck, could I use js10 or is this not possible on ms1?
What outputs do you guys recommend for my extras?
Thanks in advance
G

Re: Hi and a little help needed
Well, you probably won't like this... spend about $200 more and upgrade to MS3. Familiarity with MS1 is dying off.

^ this MS1 is obsolete and the processors have been out of production for several years now.

Cheapest/easiest option is probably to buy an MS2 card - and flog the MS1 chip. Documentation for MS2 has at least been kept up to date.prof315 wrote:^ this MS1 is obsolete and the processors have been out of production for several years now.

Valid tach output pins on an MS1 V3.0 are:
JS0
JS1
JS2
JS3
Bottom pin of R1 with R1 removed
JS7
JS10 is not a valid option for tach output on MS1.

Re: Hi and a little help needed
Thanks for the input guys, I already purchased MS1, I'm sure it will be capable for my needs.
I have a few questions about my extras and spark.
I want to mount my bip373's externally from my MS enclosure and the same with boost control.
I'm I correct in thinking this can be done like the list below:
Spark A - run cable from R26 to IGN running to external box then connected to first leg of bip 1
Spark B - run cable from R29 to SPR1 running to external box then connected to first leg of bip 2
Boost control - run cable from JS2 to SPR2 running to external box then connected to first leg of irlz44n
Switchable map - run cable from JS9 to SPR3 getting its ground signal from a switch on my dashboard
Tachometer - JS1 to SPR4
Regards
G

Re: Hi and a little help needed
To protect the processor, you will want to build a table switching input circuit and a tach output circuit. They're not making any more MS1 processors; no need to risk yours by running its output pins directly to a switch or a tachometer with zero protection.

Hi Matt, thanks for your guidance, I will be doing the steps you have stated. The way I have said I will be doing the my outputs will it be fine?
How about IAC1A, IAC2A, IAC1B & IAC2B will these work in the same way? Are they connected within the board anywhere?

Re: Hi and a little help needed
Hey guys so the board is ready. Plugged into the car. Was having problems getting an rpm signal so adjusted pots.
I get Spark, I get fuel. But I think I'm getting too much fuel.
My injectors are 42 lb/hr 440cc part no. 0280155968 high impedance
I have set my cranking pw to 0 and still getting wet plugs.
Also I have set the required fuel as 6.1 ms as per the calculator, what can I do?

Re: Hi and a little help needed
This is my log and current tune.
After this log attached, I removed the spark plugs and they were saturated in fuel.
What should I change.

Re: Hi and a little help needed
Just a general comment. Your VE table round about idle has some very large changes between cells. Which means the base you started from could be miles out.
First check all the figures you entered to get you req_fuel are correct. Then generate a VE table using the tool provided. That should be a far closer starting point.

Re: Hi and a little help needed
I'd confirm the timing is correct with a timing light, then adjust cranking pulse width.

Re: Hi and a little help needed
Timing is correct, took intake off the car, all chambers were flooded even with 0 cranking PW set. whats the next step? Req_fuel?

Re: Hi and a little help needed
Increase your "Cranking RPM" setting. You have it set to 300RPM, you are right around that speed in the log. Try 500RPM.
I was going to suggest using injector test mode to make sure the injectors were operating correctly, but MS1 doesn't have that.

Thanks James, I will do that.jsmcortina wrote:Increase your "Cranking RPM" setting. You have it set to 300RPM, you are right around that speed in the log. Try 500RPM.

Is there another way to test these injectors? or is ms2 or ms3 the only way to do this?

Re: Hi and a little help needed
MS1 does not have an injector test mode. But we have a walk through on checking the injector outputs here:
