GM 1.4 turbo for autocross

Post by peterjraymond »

This is really a planning question for a 2017/2018 winter build.

I run in the DM class in SCCA autocrossing. I can switch to a GM 1.4 turbo motor with a non-stock turbo and a 33mm SIR. With that restrictor hp can be as high as around 270, which is great for a car that has a minimum weight with driver of 1420 lbs. It also seems to work just fine against 2 liter NA motors from Cosworth and others. I'm wondering how close someone has come already to a build like this, even if the build did not include a restrictor.

People are already running this engine, but they seen to spend years trying to overcome all the safeties built into stock based ECU's I can't really see accepting the compromises, or the years of struggle.

It seems like someone must have used a megasquirt on a 1.4 GM turbo, but I'm fine with any input whether it's based on experience with this motor or not.

Thanks...
