megasquirt2 firmware for wasted spark COP
Hi all!
I'm new to megasquirt, and currently I'm working on megasquirt2 BMW M60 engine project
the board is assembled and wired, I have an engine rmp signal, injectors and fuel pump are working also.
The problem is in spark, I have it but only from D14 (top of R26). I think the problem is in firmware, because I can't find settings in Tuner studio MS, to enable other spark outputs.
Anyone can help with correct firmware? My current is release 3.4.2 for MS2 daughtercard. The board itself is V3

by setting it to wasted spark the other outputs are automatically enabled. the firing sequence is hard coded it always fires the outputs a,b,c,d. did you build the additional spark outputs on the board/

spark A comes from D14
spark B comes from D15
spark C comes from D15
spark D comes from bottom of R1, with R1 removed
does anything needs to be built? I have 4 VB921s wired to this output

dude, I have a spark on spark plug on cylinders 1-5 from c top of r26. The question was how to enable other spark outputs.
my enigne firinng order is 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2, so, I have cylinders 1-5 connected to spark A, cylinders 4 and 8 connected to spark B, cylinders 6 and 3 connected to spark C, cylinders 7 and 2 connected to spark D. Is that right?
injectors are fired by 4 injectors at one time, 1,5,4,8 one bank, 6,3,7,2 second bank
my tune file is absolutely stock and default yet, so there is no reason to post it here. Once I will enable spark outputs, I will correct dwell, and other settings

if you set your number of coils to wasted spark it will enable outputs a-d that's assuming your msq is set up correctly.

Post the MSQ and confirm spark timing with a (simple) strobe light.

Buy/borrow/rent one. No one can help you until you do because that's the only way to know the actual timing.

the m60 uses individual coils per cylinder? they are dumb coils if i remember correctly so need a ignition transistor per coil, how exactly are you driving the coils with 8x bip373 ignition transistors? pictures of the ignition outputs may help. also can you fire all the coils in test mode?

Yes M60 uses a dumb coils. I'm running 4 STP8005 transistors from stock BMW DME, one transistor drives 2 coils at one time in wasted spark mode.
Update: After test mode I realized that I had error wiring in ignition coils, spark A comes from R26 as I expected, but spark B came from R29 and not R27. After re wiring there were no kickbacks, engine catches up but won't start. I also don't have spark from bottom of R1, does it needs to be enabled separately?
I played with cranking pulse also, but no luck, I can smell gasoline, and spark plugs are wet. Looks like I have too much fuel.
the engine is 4.4 liter, and has supercharger installed, I'm running volvo orange injectors, 320cc at 3.5bar of fuel pressure.
can someone advice startup settings?

you should have spark d connected to js11, i believebottom of r1 is for ms1

I'm not sure why, but when I connected spark D to JS11, it worked. by manual, it should have been working from the bottom of R1, but it did not... no matter..
I still have kickbacks, and engine throws from exhaust, sometimes it slows down during cranking like something holding it, I'm sure it is timing...
checked ignition coils wiring again in test mode, engine firing order is 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2, so spark A is 1 and 6, spark B is 5 and 3, spark C is 4 and 7, spark D is 8 and 2.
there is to much fuel sitting in cylinders, because when I tested spark, it shot out from muffler, burning unburned fuel.
I don't have any idea what is wrong I could not find strobe light, no one have it in my city, in order to use it, I have to buy it on ebay and wait for two weeks or so

it worked best with 60 degrees so far, and 20 degrees cranking advance
the engine is M62B44 non vanos, with rear crank sensor
I'm also having problem with msq reset when cranking, I thought it was ground cable and added additional ground to engine, and it became even worse.
when cranking, Tuner studio shows "cranking" and "rmp sync" with green color, then it becomes red for a sec, then comes green again. tooth logger showed two high green lines in place of missing teeth, after adjusting R56 it became normal, but no luck still

are you seeing sync loss or resets as they are different things. post the logs and tune
