Burned when engine was ON

Questions specific to Megatune. (Only about the tuning software, not about MS1/MS2 code or code features)

Burned when engine was ON

Post by predi »

Hi,
How do i interpret the warning:
"IMPORTANT NOTE: Do NOT burn tables ('Calibrate AFR Table' or 'Calibrate Thermistor Tables') on a running engine. Even idle is NOT allowed, because these tables ONLY exist in flash, so once a table is erased, there is nothing but garbage in there until it is re-programmed, one word at a time. Until that reprogramming is complete, operating the engine is unsafe."

What does it mean "re-programmed, one word at a time"? Does it mean I need to rewrite the code for MS or smth?

The situation:
When you open the msq file with MegaTune, it asks wether to burn the values to the MS. I clicked yes, the engine as running (idle) at that time. So what is the status of the MS currently? Are the VE tables deleted? If I burn again the same way with engine off, does it fix the problem?

That warning ONLY applies to the sensor calibration tables, but you only need to do that at setup time.

It is ok to load and burn other settings while the engine is running. However, be aware that you'll get a slight "stumble" when you hit burn and sometimes the engine might stall.
