Error when loading 2.74

Post by RangingRover »

Just updated both my desktop and my laptop to version 2.74 of MLV, and both when restarting after the update displayed the helpful message "Error loading file due to error: Further occurances of this error will be suppressed." And a button underneath that simply says 'Yes'

Not sure what that nothingspeak actually means, but it seems to work :?
4.6 V8 '84 Range Rover, MS1 V3.0 on extra - Fuel and Dizzy Spark.
'81 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV - Was 2.0 4cyl MS1extra V3.0 + GSXr-750 ITBs, Now 3.0 quadcam V6, wasted spark, MS2 extra, GSXr-750 ITBs. I swear I had tyres on those rims when I left home officer....

I have gotten that same error after updating the past several versions, but keep forgetting to fix it.

It doesn't hurt anything. This is what is causing it if you are curious:
After update MLV restarts, and reopens any log file you had open when it closed. If you didn't have a file open it tries to open a file named " " and creates an error. This has really been happening all along with Auto Update.
the difference is that somewhere around 2.68 I changed error reporting. In earlier version almost all non critical errors were suppressed and logged, but not reported to the user. So, that error was suppressed by that and wasn't there. Now by default errors are reported to the user unless otherwise handled.

In this case it will probably take less time for me to get rid of that error than it did to explain it, so let me do that before then next release :)

I don't usually make changes without a new version number, but because this only impacts auto update for 1st run, I went ahead and fixed it in 2.74.
So no one should see this error message any more.

Same here. I updated from 2.73 to 2.74 without opening a log and I get the error others are getting. It doesn't bother me, but I figured I'd point it out.

Ah well. I'll take a look tonight when I am not behind a firewall :)

You guys are only getting the error on the first start, right?

Yeh. If you open MLV and don't load a log, update, and after the program restarts, you'll get the error. I can't get the error anymore because I have the latest update. I have nothing to update to so I won't get the error again until a new version is out.

Ok, it should be gone now. Let me know if anyone else sees it.

Is it still 2.74 or is there an update? I guess we won't know if it's gone for sure until someone of an older version updates.

No luck, they load fine for me.
My first guess would be that you have an invalid optional or calculated field on. try turning them off.

What should fix you for sure.... (Almost)
delete user.properties from your install dir.

Or send me the MegaLogViewerLogFile.txt from your install dir (Usually c:\Program Files\MegaSquirt\MegaLogViewer )
That will give me more detail about what is happening on your machine.
