Map tracing and map cell selection

Questions specific to Megatune. (Only about the tuning software, not about MS1/MS2 code or code features)

Map tracing and map cell selection

Post by decs »

Hi all,

basically im just curious to see if its possible to make a suggestion about 2 things i'd love to see in megatune.

one is live map tracing on the basic tables (not 3d maps). that is, when enabled, while the engine is running any used cell gets highlighted and stays highlighted untill you turn it off. that allows you to see which cells need attention during say a power run. programs such as fc edit and nistune use it and i think it would be very hardy.

the other is, making it easier to select multiple cells at once (again not the 3d maps) and adjust them all in increments. it is possible but i find that it takes a lot of random clicking till one finally highlights. though i might just be totally missing something here. is there a key i have to hold down or something?

anyhoo thats my 2c. :D

To multi-select apparently you need to click _between_ the cells.

However, also give TunerStudio a look, it is easier for multi-select.

i love tuner studio. its map editing is great. i've just found it to be a little on the unstable side. crashes etc.

Please, I would like to hear more. It is still called a beta, but should be very stable. Do you mean the whole app crashes? What are you using for a serial connection?

don't worry i had planned on posting my findings in the tunerstudio section soon.

early on in the piece i would boot it up. have it connected to my running car for a few minutes then i'd get the blue screen of death and the computer would reset. that was fairly consistent so i reverted back to megatune...

then i got a new laptop with the latest java etc. its 10x better but it still has done it on rare occasion.

the other thing i've noticed is once i was trying to get my trigger offset correct so i was changing the setting, power cycling and turning over the engine with a timing light connected. then repeating the process till i got it right. a couple of times during this process, tunerstudio went haywire. its started reading totally random numbers on all the guages and wouldn't respond properly. it was fixed by rebooting it and reloading my last saved msq into the megasquirt.

like i said tho i LOVE it 95% of the time. the layout is very user friendly and the map/table editing is awesome. i very very much look forward to a final release! :yeah!:

while on the topic, is map tracing like i described something you've ever thought about adding to tunerstudio?

How long ago were these troubles? The Blue Screen of death is unfortunately usually something I can do little about as that is almost certainly a bug in usb cables driver :( The easiest solution is to get a different usb to serial cable.

TS has done tracing for a long time, but it doesn't hold the highlight indefinitely, just for 5 records back or so. That is an interesting idea to hold it indefinitely and have it manually cleared. It could get messy though :) Perhaps just a dot every x period so you could see where the concentration spots are. Or a click to display the number of hits in each cell.

haven't had a blue screen of death for a month or so.

i'll keep that in mind about the serial-usb. good point.

i loaded up ts the other day and it updated itself but i haven't tried it with a car yet. am keen to though.

yeah both of those ideas could work quite well. its often the cells that get passed through quickly that are easy to miss that you want highlighted. makes tuning a little less trial and error.
