Connexion problems MSNS-Extra Windows 7 USB to serial adapt

Post by ToxicFrog »

Ok, I'm having connexion issues.

Lets make a little table to makke things clear...

PortCheck detects megasquirt version without problem.
TunerStudio connect to megasquirt and after a bit of work, the sensors are not epileptic anymore. see this post http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... 47#p241160

However... I can't connect with Megatune, it does not find the ecu on Com1, EasyTherm cant burn the updated files to the ECU, MS Download 2.0 spit an error message after writing. Image

In order to burn the firmware to the ECU I need to use an old computer (Pentium1).

I'm using a Prolific serial-usb driver/adaptor. Windows 7, board v2.2 and MSNS-Extra.

I have done all the ckecks listed here http://www.megamanual.com/connect.htm.

Everything passed untill I got to this section...
Check the continuity from the MAX232 to the DB9 pins:

DB9 pin #1: connects to MAX232 pin #16,
DB9 pin #2: connects to MAX232 pin #14,
DB9 pin #3: connects to MAX232 pin #13,
DB9 pin #4: connects to DB9 pin #6 no continuity
DB9 pin #5: connects to MAX232 pin #15,
DB9 pin #6: connects to DB9 pin #4 no continuity
DB9 pin #7: connects to MAX232 pin #8, no continuity
DB9 pin #8: connects to MAX232 pin #7,
no continuity
DB9 pin #9: connects to VCC (5.0 Volts at the voltage regulator pin furthest from the DB9),However I get continuity to the middle pin of the voltage regulator ???

What could be causing this? I'm not a pro in electronics... But I don't see any obvious damage to the board.

Please help me, i'm getting desperate. :x

V2.2 boards had a slightly different pinout so I wouldn't worry about the "missing" connections.

Instead, try reflashing it with the boot jumper on.

I tried reflashing it with the boot jumper on about 20 times now.

Same deal, I'm able to reflash it only on my old crappy computer (windows 95), and it works first time every time. Never worked with the new one

Here is my latest datalog... If it can help.
Thanks

I suspect it's your USB adapter. I've heard quite a few reports of issues with Prolific adapters. You may need some new Windows 7 drivers for it or something like that.
