1993 Dodge Dakota running MS3

Post by Blue93Dakota »

I now have it running full sequential stand alone on a 408 Mopar Magnum R3 block using the factory hall sensors and trigger wheels. It started on the first try and within a couple of hours of tuning I took it for a drive. Here are some of the engine specs, plan is to turbocharge within the next year or so. Still have plenty of tuning to do then off to the Dyno for Timing map and final tuning.
4" stroke
4.03" bore
9.5:1 CR
Forged internals
Indy 210 CNC Heads w/ T&D rockers
Wilson 105mm TB
GM 4 wire IAC stepper
.544 lift 236@0.050" roller cam
80# injectors
HiPoTek -8 Fuel rails
46RH trans with 3k PI Viper Converter

Still need to figure out how to control the OD with the MS3 if anyone has any ideas or knows if this can be done or not.

You should be able to use a spare output triggered above a particular MPH and below a particular RPM.

It works. As good or better than the factory PCM. The MS3 is controlling my Chrysler/Dodge 46RH (A518) overdrive transmission.

I ground the OD solenoid when the speed is above 44mph and the temp is above 155degF. Then I ground the TCC solenoid when the speed is above 48mph and 155degF. I set a hysteresis of 4mph and 5degF. The power to the solenoids is running through a relay that comes on when the key is in the run position and sends power to the positive. If I flip a switch the coil on the relay is turned off and the power drops out to the solenoids (think tow/haul). I have another relay that allows the MS3 to drop power out as well. This will happen if my TPS is above 20% and my speed is below 110mph, with a hysteresis of 5% and 10mph.

Thanks for the help Matt!

This is an amazing feat, and give me inspiration for my MS3 build of my 02 Dakota. I'm hoping to be able to use most of he factory sensors and plugs, that would be great. My problem is that I'm running a 3.9 v6 so I have to use a 36:1 wheel instead of the Chrysler flywheel. Hopefully I'll get it all worked out here in the near future. Thanks for posting up picks and your success.

Is there any additional information you can provide about you MS3 setup? Did you have to make custom connectors, or did you use a lot of the factory stuff?

I'm going to spice an extra factory wiring harness into the MS3 + MS3extra
Wiring harness. I was planning on running parallel to the factory Jtec but I'm going to
Run separate and just use Jtec for emissions when I have to pass every two years
