Running a brush-less PM 3 phase motor

Post by ol boy »

Could one drive a 3 phase Permanent Magnet motor with a megasquirt unit?

Set up would be a 6cyl, 3 squirt. with a 36-1 wheel to know which phase needs turned on. Alpha-n for load. Zero out all the correction as they aren't needed. Duty cycle would need to stay less then 33% I think.

This would be cheaper than buying a PM controller for an electric car.

I just attended a seminar for this thing. It's pretty epic. It's got onboard hardware support for running a 3 phase AC motor, including a free software library to run it. With and even without an encoder. It's not Arduino easy to program, but it's fairly user friendly to program. At $8, it's definitely better than trying to repurpose a $200 MS3 CPU.
