Adjusting VR sensor

Post by PierreL »

Hello,
We have on our engine a VR sensor with 36-1 trigger wheel
The wheel is this one: http://trigger-wheels.com/store/content ... 0.html#p25
The sensor this one: http://trigger-wheels.com/store/contents/en-uk/d5.html (Trigger wheel with 5mm pilot hole , 2" diameter)

We found that the sensor is extremely sensible to the gap between the wheel and him.
We have to go under +- 0,2 mm to get it working
And this after a lot of adjustments to do on R56 & R52.

Could somebody please tell us:
- Is it normal to have such a small gap ? Could another sensor help in that way ?
- Is there somethning that could help us to get a better signal ?

Many thanks in adavnce,
Pierre

Yes it is normal to have a small gap.
Use a sensor with a threaded body. like this

The first photo I made.
The second one is from DiGI-KEY pn 55075-00-02A
DIY Auto Tune offers this sensor.

Another option would be to use a different type of sensor, such as a Hall-type switching sensor. Most setups will read accurately at greater distances with clean signals that need no conditioning.
