Microsquirt and bluetooth module HC-05

Post by olafesq »

Hi everyone,

I managed to squeeze the bluetooth module inside the microsquirt case and wrote a DIY about it http://www.makestuffblog.com/2016/01/31 ... crosquirt/

Image

Hope you find the DIY useful. Applying it to Megasquirt should be similar.

Cheers,
Olaf

Why use the Arduino? A serial connection to the laptop / PC should work, with the appropriate adapter circuits, obviously.

Thats correct. Yet for someone doing it for first time I would still recommend to use Arduino IDE and its serial widow. Less settings to worry about. +Arduino is cheap + a lot of tutorials to get started. (And afterwards you can use Arduino to test your MS on bench, ie. send tooth wheel signals etc.)

And also, Arduino works over USB (has serial converter chip on board), in case one doesn't have serial connection on pc.

Remind me again what the Arduino is for, aside from "sounding cool" ? You can't tune the Microsquirt with it can you?

I think he is using an Ardino to "tune" the BT adapter.

Can't that be done with a shell script?

I set up my BC04 module with HyperTerminal. It is mostly just changing the BT modules baud rate from what it ships with, to the megasquirts baud rate.

Ofc any terminal can be used to send the AT commands (to set baud rate and optionally device name and pairing password). I don't have serial on my laptop so I needed some hardware for USB-serial and I happend to use Arduino for that.

I have this one. It has everything on board as opposed to just the bare module.

The problem with Microsquirts is in the serial connector therw is no 5v and you have to wire that externally. In my case,I had problems with that because I was using a car lighter style power outlet and wasn't always working right and I use msdroid to record the pass in the 1/4 mile with that and the log is incomplete because the 5v come aut or a bad contact in the power outlet

Yes those lighter sockets are terrible for dropping out power.

In this case, it would be best to cut off the jack socket and wire in a regular DB9 serial connector - with 5V.

I would suggest that will overload the uS 5v power supply. If you're going with an external unit, try to pick one that can eat 12v.
