Comparing differences in 2 or more IGN or Fuel maps

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Comparing differences in 2 or more IGN or Fuel maps

Post by BigBlockMopar »

I've been "collecting" a number of IGN advance maps since the time I've been running my MS3x for little over a month.
My goal is to achieve an optimum timing map for my engine with daily street driving (<3000 rpm).

I'm running ignition-only at the moment.
Everytime I make some worthwhile changes in the IGN map, I keep a copy of it under a new version nr. to try to keep track of changes I made compared to an earlier map. I also mention in the title what I did (LessAdvAcceleration or MoreAdvCruise).
I'm currently at map nr. 31... So sufice to say that things are getting out of hand and I want to 'consolidate' a bunch of maps that didn't provide improvements.

To try and see what fields have been changed how much since the last (few) map(s), I now keep flipping screenshots back and forth on my screen, to see where the changes are mostly. But with 31 maps it's becoming quite cumbersome ofcourse.

What I like to see is a simple comparison of what changes (how many degrees up or down) have been made between 2 or more maps.
This could also work with Fuel tables imo.

I've tried rigging something up in Excel for comparing maps. But after quite some time stabbing at it, cuss words started appearing and had to stop before real damage started to occur...
Seems my brain is not wired to follow their kind of "logic" dealing with fields and comparing them...

You can compare msq's in TS, look under File then Compare Tune and pick the msq you want to compare your loaded tune to.

Thanks, but not really what I was looking for.
I'm saving/exporting various IGN tables, not tunes.
I can do similar by placing screenshots of ignition maps side by side on my screen.

Was looking more into a table showing how much degrees difference each cell has between 2 maps.

If you have Microsoft Office Excel copy them to that then create a formula to compare.
For example if ignition table 1 were in cells A1-P16 and table 2 in cells A18-P34. Then in blank cell A36 type "=A1-A18", enter. Next copy cell A36 and highlight cells A36-P42 and paste. The formula will auto adjust to give you a comparison of both arrays.

That's exactly what I was trying to do.
Only I didn't want to manually enter 256 formula's by hand to create one difference-table, so I tried automating it, and that's where Me and Microsoft differ in how it should be done 8)
