Best Linux Distro for TunerStudio

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Best Linux Distro for TunerStudio

Post by Lambo »

The last time I setup linux for this, I used fedora, but that was quite some time ago using fedora 20. I remember jumping through some hoops to get it working but there were still a few oddities and I never really was happy with it.

I'm setting up a new laptop for this, and might want to try Linux again. Does anyone of have suggestions on which distro to go with?? Ubuntu maybe? It would be nice if it worked out of the box, or if there was a step by step guide somewhere.

I'm prepared to slap windows 10 on if that is really what I need to do, but running with linux would be nice. I'm really not a fan of windows 10.

I've recently installed Linux Mint. You need to add your user to the dialout group to get serial access.

I've done a YouTube walkthrough for TunerStudio using Ubuntu if this helps you. Here's the link.

+1 on Linux Mint. If you want to try it you can use a live CD without installing it.
Takes a little learning but not too hard.

I know this is a necro post, but figured I'd follow up. I tried ubuntu recently, but I had a few problems with it, and it wasn't really my cup of tea anyway. I went to fedora 27, added my user to dialout, and it works fine.
