Megasquirt CAN visualiser

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Megasquirt CAN visualiser

Post by jsmcortina »

TunerStudio already does a form of "CAN scan" to search for devices talking Megasquirt-CAN. However, as this is a complex area, perhaps some visualisation would help. This could also highlight to the customer whether it looks like their settings are correct. i.e. if project master CANid matches the CANid that TunerStudio is talking to.

It could also be an option to scan the CAN from the message box that pops up when TS can talk to a local device, but not the remote one. Presently that is confusing to understand what is going on.

The idea here is to show which device TunerStudio is physically connected to, along with the CANid and firmware version of the devices.

I know this is a request for TunerStudio and it does make sense to have it there but there is a currently available tool that pretty much gives you that (only available for Windows platforms).

The port scanner gives you a list of all the MegaSquirt devices and MegaSquirt-compatible devices connected to each serial port on the computer and the CAN devices connected to them and you can get the firmware version by hovering the mouse over the devices in the list.

More details are available here.

It would be a good idea and pretty much just does what TS already does only makes it more visual.

It is probably time to put more work into simplifying CAN for the next release of TS. CAN Devices and multiple CAN devices are are getting common.
