Mustang 5.0 Idle Help

Post by fastford3388 »

Hello all,

Just picked up a PIMP MS3 engine ECM and started tuning with tunerstudio this summer. My car is a 1991 Mustang GT standard 5.0 with mild cam, heads, and intake, basic bolt ons at the moment. This winter I plan on adding my Vortech V3 Sci supercharger and really tear into this tuning software.

The auto-tune feature is great, and I've had great success tuning so far with my current setup However, I'm experiencing 2 issues.
1) Rolling idle , especially when cold but also when warm
2) when cruising and coming to a stop light, I clutch in and the engine dies

My TS is version is 3.0.28 and firmware version is MS3 1.5.0

Anyone have advise on how to tune for this setup? I've already adjusted idle spark advance and CL idle fuel settings.

Thanks!

1) & 2) Try open-loop idle control.
This should tell you if it's some closed-loop setting. I have MS2, so not familiar with the many more MS3 settings.

I have closed loop idle control enabled. Should I try and disable this to better troubleshoot?

I know, I looked at your tune. Yes, that's why I said to try open-loop.

I had a similar setup on my 5.8l engine had signature PIP and CCD, with the signature PIP one of the trigger pulses is shorter to signal Cyl1 TDC on compression stroke.
My problem was that Cylinder 2 timing was always of a few degree. (Picture says Cy3 that's a typo)

I tried every setting could not get it fixed and finally broke down and installed a toothed wheel on the crank.
I tuned AFR to about 12 with batch fire injection and the idle problem was good.
Later I switched to from batch fire to full sequential and tuned AFR to 13.2 now my idle is perfect can even go down to 700 RPM.

Should post up a log of it acting up, would help greatly. As already stated, go to open loop Idle control first. Something else to look into is overrun fuel cut, make sure it is not engaging prematurely, sometimes "engine states" set up incorrectly will cause false trigger of overrun.
