Open source expansion board

Post by ol boy »

Anyone open to an open source code expansion board design? I need to build a new transmission controller for my car but want to do it in a way that doesn't need to be specific to my car. I currently have a teensy3.2 bread boarded on the glove box door receiving CAN messages and recording data to a microSD card. Drives a SSR for the water meth pump, receives vehicle speed from the VSS and baro over I2C. I'm thinking of using a teensy3.5 since it has the microSD card slot part of the board. The code is arduino based C++.

Big picture idea would have a wiki page to follow instructions for down loading the Tensyuino IDE along with the needed libraries and a few code examples to get started with.

You'd need to host information and discussion elsewhere as this forum is for the discussion of Megasquirt products only.

How would it be any different than Jeans IO expansion board? or any of his other products supporting the MS community?

Jean has his own support forum and website.

Just to clarify... anyone can create a supporting MS product/s by hosting a website and forum? Once this is in place it can be discussed with in the MS forum?

It will depend on whether the product is complementary to existing products or a competitor. Naturally we don't want this forum used to discuss or support competitors' products.

Would providing a populated PCB with case that requires the end user to write their own code and program the box compete against Jeans IO box? I see you write the firmware for Jeans IO box. Does that make his hardware official MS product?

No difference than ShadowDash and MSDriod. Both are supporting products for the MS community.

I'm not trying to be a pain in the butt here. I'm trying to understand the size and shape of the box I'm working with. Is there a 3rd party outline somewhere describing the responsibilities to becoming a complementary MS product?

To clarify on that. The JimStim is a joint venture. I have no involvement in the other JBPerf products.

I don't really understand why this idea is a problem.
I thought this section of the forum is made for discussion regarding expansion boards, gauges can bus stuff, egt boards and more. No?

"(T)his section of the forum is made for discussion regarding expansion boards, gauges can bus stuff, egt boards and more" ... insofar as they pertain to the care and feeding of MS products. Discussion of support, configuring, and debugging is supposed to happen on your own host site. Using Jean's IO board as an example, questions about how to hook it up to an MS box, and how to configure the MS box to accept the inputs, is something to discuss here. The internal schematics, mods, programming, and configuring is supposed to be discussed on Jean's site (and is). If you're asking about how to configure an IO board to send info to an MS2, there usually isn't too much issue. Ask how to set it up for a Holley controller, and you won't get much love from the mods.

Perfect forum to discuss a complimentary (to the Megasquirt) opensource expansion board. If it becomes a reality, happy take the discussion offline to another location.
