E4OD set up

Post by mikethemechanic1414 »

hi all, im currently finishing up aquiring parts for my e4od swap into my 69 f100. Not new to controllers but also not an expert. Tired some googling and alittle searching here on the forums, but apears to be little info out there about doing this. Just come across little things here and there looking to get a full idea of whats all needed to be done. Im sure its out there just having a hard timing locating the info.

looking for wiring diagram for the trans to mircosquirt and some basic settings to get things rolling. As well as any other helpful tips and tricks from others that have been learned along there way. so please inandate me with links for me to read thru. thank you all very much. Id like to try my hand at this vs going with US Quick shift.

Have you read the Microsquirt Transmission control manual?

Definitely doable with the E4OD. I have a 96 Bronco running one Microsquirt for the engine and another for the transmission. The only issue I am having is excessive line pressure. The Microsquirt uses PWM to control line pressure and the E4OD uses current control. Still working on making this combo play well together.

Have you installed the external diode across the pressure control solenoid?

I have and it did seem to change the behavior somewhat, but not so much that I could effectively lower the pressures to "normal" levels. Does it matter where in the circuit I install the diode? I am basically in testing right now, so I installed it where it was convenient, in the wire harness going to the tranny near the brake master cylinder as the wires were easy to access. I installed it across INJ 2 (EPC Solenoid wire) and the 12V source to the solenoid pack. Is that the correct way to do it, or does it need to be done differently, somewhere at the solenoid pack? I understand a lot of this, but I am a "mechanical" guy and sometimes the electronics are just spooky magic to me.

Sounds like you have it installed correctly.

I was thinking about installing a resistor in line with the EPC circuit to reduce the current proportionally across all duty cycles. Does that sound like something that makes sense?

I think I have answered my own question. It looks like high current equates to lower pressure and low current to higher pressure, so adding a resistor to to lower the current would not be helpful. I wonder if my EPC is just bad. I hate to throw parts at it, but with the diode, should I expect to get to "normal" E4OD pressures if I lower the duty cycle enough? I may need to invest in a solenoid pack.
