I still do not have it running. I still don't get an rpm signal, but I am getting a reading on the composite log. The odd thing is that it will fire with starting fluid, even with no sync.

For it to fire with no-sync, either something else is controlling your coils or the engine is dieseling.

Definitely nothing else controlling the coils, must be dieseling. Have you taken a peek at my log?

So I am getting a crank signal, just not the cam signal. I ended up using the sensor 5v VREF instead of 12v, with sensor ground. I have a pull up resistor between VREF and CKP- like it should be. I wired everything the same with the cam with CMP- and even tried a brand new sensor. Nothing

You could try disconnecting the coils and remove the sparkplugs
This way your cranking speed will be higher
You should be able to check if it synches now
If not there would be something wrong with the setup

I tried using the setup that juansh2385 posted with no luck. Also tried inverting the signal. I will have to remove the intake manifold to remove the spark plugs, but i can try that... but, I did remove the sensor with the wiring still connected and tried passing it over metallic items and still didn't get a signal.

Quistion for you
In the screenshot you posted you mention no rpm
And indeed in the upper left it says zero
But it also says oil pressure!?
When you look below the wheel/Ignition decoder tab you see the ends of the vertical trigger times!
Are you sure you are not synching!? :RTFM:

That screen was not to show what I was reading during cranking, that was just to show where my settings were at. I posted my composite log which shows crank triggers, but no cam.

You could buy a ds203 i have one
And it, s a great investment
Tracing injector signals or crank signals like yours!

Since this is a digital signal, I wouldn't need an oscilloscope. Im just wondering if maybe I would need a different pullup resistor? I'm using a 1k

So, I got myself an oscilloscope and I get no readings between signal and ground. I do however get a 0-5v square wave reading between 5v+ and the signal wire. How do I configure in MS that signal is actually a pulsed ground?

Add a pullup resistor.

I finally got it up and running. I started it a couple times and it ran good. Now I can only get sync when I have full 14v. If the battery gets down to 12v, then I get no sync. Can someone look at my log to see what might be wrong? I am getting both cam and crank.

juansh2385 wrote:This is a short write up of the details condition of How I have tested this.

First I used both crank and can sensor.

This engine use open collector hall sensor for the crank and the cam sensor. To work with this sensor for a stand alone you must install a pull-up resistor for both input signals like its shown in the M3SX manual section 5.2.3 Open Collector
Follow the instructions on page 84 of MS3x V3.0 Hardware Manual 1.5 for the Crank Sensor.
For the Cam sensor follow the instruction of the section 5.2.14.4 (page 93)

If this is a stock car and you are sharing the signals with the stock computer do not install the pull-up resistors.

I Uploaded and MSQ with the Base configuration for the Ignition settings if you follow the above instructions.
The core configuration settings are:

Spark Mode: 6G75
Ignition Input Capture: Rising Edge NOTE (this setting might change depending on the MS3 variant that you are using please see the ecu manual)
Spark Output: Going Hi (if using stock smart coils with ms3x expansion)
Number of Coils: Coil on Plug
Spark Hardware: MS3X Spark
Cam Input: MS3X Cam in
Flip Polarity: Normal

For the Mivec (vvt) I used one of the spark outputs of the expansion and wired a relay to it. It is and on/off type so I just use one relay for both vvt.

The firing order of the car its 123456 this means that you install the coils as
Spark/Inj A (cylinder 1)
Spark/Inj B (cylinder 2)
Spark/Inj C (cylinder 3)
Spark/Inj D (cylinder 4)
Spark/Inj E (cylinder 5)
Spark/Inj F (cylinder 6)

Please Follow the manual for the rest of the setup it is a really straight forward installation. Also if you have another ms3 variant follow that manual to configure the above information.

The Code expects both signal to have the same polarity the above configuration works with MS3X Standar Ecu. If you have a different variant or trigger circuit just make sure that the processor see both signals with the same polarity (you can chose rising/falling edge and flip polarity to make this happen with your particular setup}

I attached and MSQ containing the ignition configuration and a Composite Log of both signals to show what the code expects.

Note right now you need a good working battery and starter. If your cranking speed is not consistent the car might experience trouble starting up. With a good starter/battery it works for me flawlessly

What would it take to make this more stable at less than 100% battery? My engine cranks just fine at 12v, just no sync.

It is 6g75 but I had problems with the crankshaft sensor friend, it was detached, even so the synchronization is achieved, I am using two 4n25s, one for the crankshaft sensor and the other for the camshaft

I'm seriously thinking about putting an external gear ring on it, lol
