Need for vr/optical decoders

Post by Papatewks »

Hi, my optical decode (u3) is fried. No worries, a tube of ten will be here tomorrow for less than my and my wife’s morning coffee. But it got me thinking. Less is more when it comes to reliability. Both my crank and cam sensors are hall sensors that output a nice square wave. Why is all this decoding stuff necessary? Can I just do some normal emi filter on the input and connect to ms directly? What are the risks? Thanks!

I'd run it through the regular VR conditioner unless it's being used for something else. Sure, it's a bit more filtering than your average Hall or optical sensor needs; you could use a simpler filter (and many cam input mods do just that).
