Can Transceiver error

Post by Vega »

I have removed my 6Al2 box and installed Coil near plug set of 8. I have made the wires for the coils and have tested continuity of all to their destination all are correct. I added another relay triggered by fuel pump relay for the power. Direct from Battery. Ground direct from battery. When I turn on the ignition switch with tablet turned on and tuner Studio MS Ultra v3.1.08 up the fuel pump does its cycle 3 time and the ECU then connects to tuner studio. Then this window pops up. Attached. I have also attached Ignition options screen shot I hope that is right. I have tried to use the output test mode inj/spk I get nothing out of the coils. I have also tried to start the engine no luck. I hope the tune posted here is right I have three systems that I use for this car and auto sync them, but I shut that off while I was using the tablet to keep from changing all of the systems until I had the car working then I will turn the sync back on. That is why I posted screen shots.

How have you wired the coils?
What connections are there to the CAN pins ?

I have wired them as per Amp EFI diagram. I have checked each wire to make sure they are connected to the right area and grounded to the right place. The whole system of coils can be removed in 3 minutes per side just by unplugging 4 connectors. As is most of the system, better working on bench then trying to do it in the car. Following the instruction on Tuner studio manual for my system I didn't see anything about Can pins. The wiring diagram also has no Can connection showing. That is attached here. I was wondering why the error referenced a Can error.

Forget about the coils. What is connected to your CAN bus? You have a CAN bus error and your msq has some weird CAN settings so tell us about your CAN bus configuration and devices.

When I put EGTs on the company that sold me the device to read them sent a bunch of stuff to me with instructions to install the EGTs they work and car has been running. That is all I know about the CAN. Unless the ECU put something in there when I changed to this coil setup the only thing I have changed in tuner studio is the screen shot I posted here. The only thing I have done in the Can area is try and test the coils. I have changed some wiring to add sensor grounds maybe one of the sensor grounds is misplaced. Is there something specific I should be looking for?

Disconnect the CANH, CANL wires. (White plug 33 & 34) and make sure you don't have anything connected to the CAN plug on the case (assuming this is an Evo?)

If you get the same error with them disconnected you'll need to contact your supplier.

For the coils, you need to set "Number of Coils" to "Coil on plug" instead of "Single coil", but I don't see how that would cause CANbus issues unless it's generating lots of electrical noise.

I think Spark Output should be set to "Going high" instead of "Going low". If you use the wrong one, your coils may overheat and/or fire prematurely.

Edit: I'm not sure what the Spark Hardware should be set to - are you using MS3x or something else?

Ok I have unplugged Can High and low Rebooted system the error does not come up. I have checked all the settings in tuner studio for the EGTs that the company had me put in. There is two grounds on that come from the unit one is attached to Head the other is attached to Battery negative. That, I just did the other day it was also attached to engine. That is the only thing I have found that is different. Do you think moving that ground from car ground to battery would cause the problem. I checked all EGT with ohm meter all read ok, ign on voltage to EGT device Can High and low go directly to that unit and have a resistor between H&L at that plug.

Something is wrong either with your CAN wiring (H&L crossed?) or with the CAN device.

Would a CAN speed mismatch cause this error as well?

Mismatched speeds certainly causes an error. I don't recall if it causes this one.

I think your misconfigured coils and the EGT grounding to the battery may be causing your CAN errors. The simple test is to unplug your ignition coils and see if the CAN bus connects correctly. What EGT box are you using that has 2 different grounds?

Ok I have removed the EGT box and have sent it off to the manufacture. Replaced the coil packs back on engine. There is power to the coils, Checked the wires from coils to ECU Gray plug good. Black/ white to Wht plug #18 good. Ground to head good both sides. Ground to Battery good both sides. I have changed the settings in ignition options. The only Question there is Spark or Tach out. Are there any other settings in tuner studio that need to be set??

The EGT box microprocessor shorted out. This I'm told caused the error. This box is out dated and is no longer repairable and it's just a year old. It also seems there are a big shortage of this type of box. So moving on I had purchased a long time ago a ECU Masters EGT to CAN that I could not get to work with MS3 pro. I have found a post by jsmcortina with direction to make it work. I have wired it put external power to it and installed its software and tried it in ECU masters environment. It connects to the PC fine, I heated each thermal coupler and got reading from all so they are good. I changed all of the settings in ECU masters to match MS3 pro and made them permanent in the EGT box. All the couplers have been wired to that box to fallow the firing order. I then entered the item into Can receiving, Generic sensors with the same order (firing order). First time I turned on ECU got an error. Generic Sensor pin conflict- pin already used by EGT 8 in. That was the first time everything was in order 1 thru 8 same on the EGT box so I called ECU masters they answer the phone. I told him I was told that MS3 needs the firing order for injectors and coils and I thought for EGTs so you knew what cylinder was what. He said to try and do the same with the box which I did wired the probes in firing order. Made sure tuner studio reflected the same setup. Second time turned on Generic Sensor pin conflict - pin already used by EGT 4 in. Now this error only comes up when EGT box is connected. Unplug power no error. But as I said powered up on there stuff everything works fine. So I'll post my tune. I have been trying all shorts of thing for the last week every day. I'm sure something is not right.

Ok here is some new information, By unplugging the EGT to CAN box does not remove the error message. I thought it did but was wrong. To recap I have wired EGT box to Firing order tested all probes good with ECU masters software. I have chained all the connection readings in Tuner studio to be inline with firing order. What use to be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 is now 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2. Look in tune file to see what I have done. That will be in Can Receiving, Generic sensors where the error reports from and EGT thermocouples. What I think it is saying there is two items trying to use the same pin but for the life of me I can't find what else it may be. I removed EGT 8 all together hoping one of the two be gone but no luck error still appears. It would be great if the error said what items are in conflict. Error Generic Sensor pin conflict- pin already used by EGT 8 in.

The problem is that you have configured EGT and Generic Sensors to use the same inputs.

Turn off all of the EGT settings you've added to the Generic Sensors.

Your the best I was thinking I needed to clear all of them and then burn that and rewrite them but that didn't work never thought the title was the problem. Thank so much. Solved
